I can’t find that post    Someone had up of their bunny moving the skin around on his hindquarters when eating a banana or something really good.

Glad I read that b4 I actually saw it. Else I would have thought he had fleas.   The other nite Cotton did it too.  I gave him a bite of pear.  He loves pairs. He turned his back to me and chowed down all the while moving his skin around on his hindquarters.  rofl.

Rabbits can be the strangest creatures sometimes.

*waves hand* That would be me. ^_^
Fiver does the ‘bunny butt twitch’ as I now know it’s called. The post is in behavior I think? Or diet and care?
Anyway, I’ve been keeping an eye to see when he does this. Only after eating his cecals really…cookies can sometimes bring it out, but for the most part he seems only at his happiest when he’s eating those nasty things! >_<
I still don’t know why he snaps his teeth together when he’s resting. It bothers me enough that I’m going to ask my vet about it.

EEEEWW he really must love those nasty things   I couldnt’ imagine us having to eat ours like that.  Ooooof.  Anyways better a bunny than us right?

The tooth grinding.  Does he do it when you are talking to him?  Mine does that.  Maybe he is just content.

I agree with you though on taking him to the vet just to be sure he is ok.

Our bunnies do shimmies.  OH my have you ever did shimmy also?  Maybe thats where our buns get it from tehehee.  Us bun Mums dancing all over and our bunnies just had to copy us?

I am glad to know it isn’t fleas or something.

Hey I was just going to post a similar thread. I have seen Bunny “wag his tail” a few times this week.
Once before a ‘running through the house’ session and another time when he knew i had treats.
I can’t remember what was going on the last time. Maybe we were just both walking and I was talking to him.

But yeah. I have never noticed him doing that before! It is so cute.

I would like to see fivers twitch thread but I can’t find it. Can someone post a link?

I don’t know how to insert the hyperlink, but here’s the thread:

Fiver is the first bunny I’ve seen who wags his tail. Now Pip has started doing it when I come to clean her up in the morning. It’s too cute! Mimzy keeps his tail on the d/l. ^_^
I think it’s an uppy ear bunny thing. I don’t know of any lops who wag their tails.

Thanks for the compliment Jerz. The siggy is Pipkin from Watership Down and my avvy is Fiver (the original from same). I’m afraid I’m already eager for something else though and will probably switch them out soon. I’m so mercurial. ^_^ It’s a Virgo thing.

Pepper does the bunny-butt-twitch, and it was first pointed out to me by an online friend with 2 lops and an uppy – he calls it the “Banana-butt-twitch”.  But she doesn’t wag her tail .

I love how Cotton wags his tail and tosses his ears when he is playful.  I wish I could get it on video along with his biiiiiig bunny stretch.

Hammer does the little butt twitch thing when he eats his salad sometimes. Usually when the salad is super fresh and has a bunch of his favorites. Every now and then he will do it when he is really enjoying some head rubs too lol.

Yea my bunnys both do the teeth grinding thing when I am not petting them, I know it is not out of pain because they look all relaxed when they do it.

Thistle did the bunny butt twitch once, I thought it was weird because Fern has never done that.

Talking about funny bunny behaviors, Both my bunnys seem to be having flop wars, Fern always seems to Flop now, she was not much of a flopper before, more of a binkyer. He also flops a lot. It is really cute watching them both ‘fall over’ Haha.

I think the butt twitch has an actual biological reasoning…I read it a few days ago and thought “A-ha!”   Though it is cuter to think it’s from pure excitement over food.  I’ll try find where I read it and post back here…

Soooo…it is said that when a rabbit eats the cecal motility is increased (i.e. cecals moving through the cecum via contractions) and more hard poop output. We know they tend to eat and poop! Then cecatrophy (eating the cecals) happens when the cecum contractions are less, so usually when the rabbit is not eating but resting in quieter times, hours after feeding.

Whether the twitching we see is cecum contractions or not, I don’t know.  I have seen the twitching while cecal eating also.  Like I said before, it’s cuter to think of it as excitement over food.
