        Hey there everyyyyone!!

I just realized I spelled my rabbits name wrong on my user name… Silka = Sivka but its pronounced Silka.. lol

Sivka is a 2 year old Flemish Giant, i’ve had her since she was 8 weeks old. She is the runt of the litter. Sivka is now 20lbs

Everything about Sivka is big..her lovely personality, which is overly bubbly ( I thought flemish giants would be lazy) but she’s very active and a brat. She loves to cuddle and pets, and loves the fan.. lol She even has a diaper.. I move a lot so its hard to keep her potty trained, however she’s only in it about 2-3hrs a day. Otherwise she’s exploring her six foot long hutch, that is five feet and eight inches high, with three levels and a fifteen foot run.

Heres some shots of my buns growing up.

Here she’s 8 weeks old, she started as a house bunny

                  Thank you everyone

It took me about 6 months to find the color of her coat.. lol I am glad I waited

I don’t over feed her though, as some people tend to do with flemish giants in order to get them fatter…they never stop eating if you keep offering food.  Although, since I don’t “overfeed” her, she doesn’t stuff herself, and just keeps revisiting food, and asks to play, and for me to chase her around lol she’s a dork.

She’s almost the perfect show bunny…but i think she’s too beautiful for a show…. someone might steal her xD!

                  some more from today

I love the blankie pix, and the shots that show her size in comparison to other things.

I’ve moved a lot, too, and Sammykins is my second bunny. Though both my bunnies were different breeds than yours, I found that if I litter trained them, and then put their habitat set up in each new home in exactly the same configuration as before, they would continue to keep good litter habits in the new place. The trick was to keep their own space as familiar as possible in layout, dishes, litter, food, while they gradually explored the new territory.

They say that new babies, puppies and I would add bunnies, if introduced to change early in life, will adjust easily to changes later on.

Hey there, she usually has her cecals in the morning or late at night, although I noticed when I bring her inside she doesn’t poop very often in the diaper, (she used to poop a lot in the diaper though, but as she learned of its use i think she holds it in till she goes back into the hutch) and all the poops she does have is her normal little poos Overall she just poos when I am not around, even without the diaper. Since she isn’t fixed yet she does her “gr this is my spot stinky pellet poo” every once in a while.

Thank you, she is a lovely little angel monster lol

Right now I live in a home stay type arrangement, so her would be litter area is too large for the moment. I used to live in my own basement suite, then I moved to a community living house, then this new home-stay arrangement ( all with her…lol she’s expensive to u-haul around), so I moved this place for school in September. However, its hard to keep the same arrangement as in the first house she had the whole kitchen to herself when I wasn’t around. However, I think this way works best for both of us, and the family I live with.

I wouldn’t recommend diapers for most buns, unless they are infirm, as the urine build up in the diaper can cause some serious urine scald. Litter training is definitely preferred!

Sani: rabbit diapers???? where can I find these magical objects?

The diapers are normal baby diapers; size 2 year old Jumbo with the Velcro arm flaps cut with scissors to be able to fit the rabbits contour, along with a punctured hole for the tail. Takes about 5 minutes to cut and put on

Monkeybund: I wouldn’t recommend diapers for most buns, unless they are infirm, as the urine build up in the diaper can cause some serious urine scald. Litter training is definitely preferred!

The diaper isn’t on more then a few hours at a time. When I take the diaper off, her area is always dry. There isn’t even a hint of yellowing on or near her Punani.   I think she may pee about 2 times in the diaper?

Bullrider: I dont know about the diaper thing, that doesnt sound to humane to me. I would stick with litter training too.

                                          and RE: IMAGE

If she didn’t like the idea of the diaper and fought to put it on, or it blocked blood flow, or other death harming stuff, it would be be inhumane, however since she gets excited to have the diaper put on I see it no more a precautionary measure, and both hers and mine ease of happiness.

By the way beautiful Flemish you have there!! I had the chance to get that blue coat bunny as well, but theres just something about Sivka’s chinchilla silver that just awes me. My girl was the runt of her litter so I don’t think she is going to weight more then 20lbs. So small. lol

Crysta – Maybe we can help with litter training tips. Is the issue that she poops and pees in the house? Is that why she is in diapers when she is in the house. Is that why she is in a hutch too? You mentioned she used to be a house rabbit. What changed that? Again, being that we are a House Rabbit site, we may have some valuable tips that can help you. We have had several members that found solutions to different issues and allowed them to bring their bunny inside permanently. Please see Please see this link for “Outdoor Housing” https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/108126/afnp/128795/Default.aspx

Welcome to another big bun owner! You can see my large and in charge guy in my signature. His name is Zeus, he’s either a French Lop or a French lop cross.

Moving around a lot can be challenging when you have a bun; even moreso when it is a big bun. All of their stuff is bigger, and when you get into the giant breeds, providing enough space if you CAN’T do the free range thing gets seriously challenging.

I’d suggest getting the largest x-pen you can find, and buying a scrap piece of linoleum from a hardware store. The linoleum can be rolled up and easily transported; the x-pen is foldable and very easy to move as well. I’d also give litterbox training another shot. When you move, make sure everything is kept in the same place in the bun’s habitat. Also, I’ve noticed Zeus has a few unique challenges when it comes to a large bun and litterbox training.

You need a box that’s bigger than most boxes you see bunnies in. It also has to be a LOT taller/deeper. That’s where I was making my mistakes. The big buns can easily poop/pee over the size of many boxes that are even cat-sized. I use a deep washtub for Zeus’s litterbox; works great. Also, I use wood pellets. They’re cheap, and for the big guys that have a lot of, ahem, “output” (LOL!), it’s much more absorbent than anything else. Zeus will go outside of his box if I DON’T use wood pellets.

Another few large-bun specific things; make sure you have something grippy outside the box so jumping in and out is easy. Since you need a taller/deeper box they’ll need to jump a little higher. Combine that with their additional weight and they can easily lose traction trying to get into the litterbox. A cheap rug will work; or a grass mat or coconut fiber mat for the buns that chew/eat everything (like Zeus!).

You’ll also want to secure the litterbox so it doesn’t move around when they jump in and out. I ziptie Zeus’s to the side of his cage with at least 3 heavy-duty zipties. A 10lb bun diving into an unsecured litterbox will mean you have a scared bun in a skidding across the linoleum box, LOL.

I hope these ideas help! Big buns are so fun but can be a challenge; especially when you don’t have the ideal place for them. But a little creativity and you’ll have your bun inside and littertrained in no time.

@Bunnnnnie lol I hear you on that! I Built a huge NIC cage for him and his tiny mini lop companion. As for a litter box we are using a storage bin from walmart ans it works really well. its about 3′ long 1 1/2′ wide and the edges are prob about 8″ tall. and I have to use wood pellets too, and it has to be cleaned constantly, other wise Baby will dig and spread the dirty part out of the box. I want a clean box daddy LOL
I am glad to see some big bunny owners here, granted I have a couple of small ones too lol all bunnies need love and a good home!

oh here is a pic of the cage we built

I would highly suggest teaching your big beautiful bun how to litter train. Rabbits are quite easy and smart when it comes to their boxes, and learn things faster than people think Diapers would just be a waste of money and could cause potential health problems

Sorry peeps! I went away for the weekend and ended being busy!

Hunny’s Momma: Crysta – Hunny weighed in at 9lbs,10oz this past Monday when she went for a check up & lil’ Ashes was a whopping 2lb,10oz the same day.

Wowsy! That’s quite a ways to go J I think sivka weight about the same at 6 months as well, maybe just a little under since she was the runt of her litter, now she’s hoisting her 20 pound self around like a pro..cute… lol

Little puffy tail: Beautiful and great pics! I love seeing pics of giant bunnies!!! Mine are all under 5 lbs!

Haha aww L well I am sure you will come to the darkside soon enough!

BB- Crysta – Maybe we can help with litter training tips. Please see Please see this link for “Outdoor Housing” https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tab…fault.aspx

Oh, you had mentioned that you had entered your user name in incorrectly. I can change that for you if you would like.

Ohh that would be awesome if you could change it to Crysta and Sivka J

She would poop in the house, etc if I left the diaper off, but that is due to the current setup I live in is vastly different from my previous home, which was a basement suite so I had her as a successful house bunny. (where she just had a litter box and no cage)

Now I live with a family in a homestay type of arrangement. I have one room to myself and the rest of the house is shared. They prefer the bunny to be outside when I am not home – which isn’t a problem as she has a secure hutch. However, the current room I have isn’t big enough to allow her to live full-time in it without me being present. Plus the current family I live with isn’t too keen on having a free range Bugs Bunny.  Otherwise these people are amazing J

I would move, but the current university area am living near is really expensive, (north Vancouver) so it was hard enough to find a place that would accept tarantulas + a giant bunny, that is in close proximity to my schooling.  Took me about 3-4 months to find a place within my budget range etc.  I am not into giving up my rabbit and spiders either.

If she wasn’t healthy I would be worrying for her, and bring her inside,  however she’s the most active thing in the world…and I don’t think I’d be getting any sleep at night if she WAS in my room. lol

bunnnnnnie!: Welcome to another big bun owner! You can see my large and in charge guy in my signature. Description: https://binkybunny.com/wp-content/uploads/converted_files/themes/BB_Theme//emoticons/smile.gifHis name is Zeus, he’s either a French Lop or a French lop cross.

Zeus is awesomely cute!! J I love his coloring, when I was a kid we had one of similar coloring (but a mini rex) amongst other buns J hehe I love his face.

I do have an x-pen I created out of squares, that is about a +10ft wide circle when stretched out, however I keep it outside..where my bunny gets to play in it, and the grass…because my room is 13ft.. (then add desk, shelves, bed ect) lol

Yep, I use wood pellets as well J awesome stuff, and  waaay easier. I work at a pet store so my rabbit gets all of the insane treats and stuff.. lol .. spoiled.

Yep she has a matted area for every jump spot in her hutch, she has a cat bed, and cat blanket etc.  The only thing that really scares her is helicopters flying over… lol She’s always jumping on all my furniture..will even jump on and off the table if I let her lol..

She only chews paper things, and books, and carpet. She doesn’t chew wires, my wall, or tables.  I don’t have carpet. Yay.

Bullrider: Thank you BB! We are very proud of him.
