I am a little reluctant to buy any toys because he seems to be having much more fun hiding under my bed! Little rascal! He also loves to dig at my blankets. He also seems to enjoy rearranging things as he does this everyday. I always find his cage furniture in shambles. He flipped his little house UPSIDE DOWN!

Anyway, I’m thinking getting him some real toys might save my blankets. (He has also been trying to eat them!) I was planning on getting a large tub, putting some dirt in it and let him dig around but my dad is really against the whole idea. He doesn’t want dirt in the house. I understand but still.

I’m working on trying to find something that will allow him to play in the yard. We have some wild rabbits and I can tell that they can get out pretty easily (especially when chased by the dog “Please play with me!”) It’s not completly fenced up either. I really want him to be able to experience grass. I’ll have to see what they have at Target, or possibly Wal Mart.

In the mean time while I’m trying to arrange saftey measures so he can be outside…Do you guys have any ideas on toys or activities (cheaply made, perhaps) that might help satisfy his digging?

You may want to get a xerox box or something similar and just fill it with newspaper strips or paper strips.  The ones that come from a paper shredder would be great.  I mean if i were a rabbit, I would dig in it. lol.  You may have a problem with your rabbit mistaking it for litter though.  Certainly worth a shot though.  If you cut a hole in the side, you could use a cardboard tube to permanently affix it to his living space.  Or just let him go through the hole when he wants in.  You’ve probably owned a rabbit longer than me.  Have at it!

One safe way of having him outside would be to use a wire dog crate with the bottom pan removed.  The grating on the bottom is usually large- so you would have to make sure it is level and I would suggest sitting by the crate to make sure that the bunny does not try to dig out.  I have done this with my bunnies successfulyly- they are able to feel the grass under their paws, enjoy the fresh air, but are completely contained.

Hey ! Well what i did to my rabbit so he could go outside was buy the dog cage that stays outside, i bought the 36 X 36 one though so my rabbit couldn’t climb over it or something that involves getting over it, now like katnip said you might wanna ensure that you watch him while hes outside cause he may want to dig out ! I bought mine from petco.com because it was very cheap only 80 $ normally I think it was 110 or something I’d check out the sites before the store because when I went to the local petco(s) they didnt have any ones..

Two words: phone book. It’ll be torn to shreds before you know it! And sea grass mats (i swear by those things- *thanks binky bunny for that*!)
