Siggy Sizes

Just wanted to remind everyone that there are size limitations to your siggys

Limitations: 200  pixels wide, 100 pixels  high

 

The limitations are in place to make sure that posts are easy to get through as well as to prevent page loading slowdowns.

Also remember – no links from your siggy images are allowed unless it’s going directly to photo host service. (for storing photos only)

No willow, it wasn’t focused just for you. It is because more and more are popping up passed the limits, and I needed to give some reminders to allow people to change them before they are deleted. Thank you though for changing your signature. Appreciate it.

That’s my hubby doing that! He just finished working on it. I said – try to keep it, don’t delete if there is anyway possible to rewrite the code.

Sorry, Binkles I know you spent time on this, but that is too distracting. I have let people use liittle tiny things – like a bunny hopping here and there, but stuff like this, moving all the time….I haven’t had to put rules in place because I never had to deal with it on this level, but large distracting flash won’t be allowed.

Sorry, we have that size for a reason. You can put a pic of CU of Binkles face at that size (still small), with the dates to the side and a saying – sort of like what Steve, my husband was doing. Otherwise you can put it inside your profile.

And are there any particular file types that won’t take up as much server space and load time?

If it’s just one of those little tiny bunny things or itsy bitsy thing, then FOR NOW, it doesn’t seem to be a biggie, but having 200 x 100 moving siggy was too much. And if the whole avatar was moving – you know like if the bunny you have now was dancing around…that….would be too much. 

I know  the fully moving larger sigs and avatars are allowed on many other forums, but when you get a bunch of people doing  it, in my opinion, in can really clutter things up and make the forum a billboard of distraction.    Maybe I’m just an old fogey, but I like the simple stuff and without a bunch of stuff moving in the corner of my eye while I am trying to focus on the important part – what someone is saying.

Regarding size: compressed gifs are smaller, but on top of the server space, there is the visual of keeping things small, where people can be unique, but not take up so much thread space that it makes posts cumbersome..

 

That’s why we have started to adjust siggys and for the next few days, you may see some “shrinkage” going on.

Ah yes, I see mine is a bit smaller. I’ll work on reducing it today and repost it so you guys don’t have to do the resizing.
And yes, I agree that things should be relatively simple on a message board. As you said, there is always the profile where one can display more ornate stuff if one chooses, being circumspect of course.
I just feel sorry for Binkles. She made such a lovely tribute to her bun, and I didn’t see her Flash siggy, but I think it’s jsut hard for her now to deal with taking it down with the memory of her bunny’s passing only a month old.

The avvy pic is of With, a character from D.N.Angel and I have a copy of it where the eyes are blinking and the tail wags every few frames, but since you said it shouldn’t be moving I’ll just use that elsewhere. ^_^

Hi, BB,
Maybe a post could be started just called “Memorials” and tributes could be saved there all together?
I know MM has made some lovely tributes to others’ bunnies, and Binkles’ is lovely too. Could put a link to the post in the siggy like Markusdark does to his bonding thread.

Mimzmum – I know….poor Binkles. I hated doing that. I felt like I was going to the cemetery and telling someone that needed to take their flowers down. I kept it up for as long as I felt appropriate, I even tried to shrink it, and did my best to give as much warning…..still feel like a big old heel, no worse… a dirty old shoe.

Rabbitpam has a good idea though – A Forrum section for loss/memorial might be very helpful – and also maybe may be a good idea to have a Memorial Gallery in the Gallery section, that way people could still post their pics, but also keep them up in the galllery where they could link to them.

Actually I am going to start a new thread/poll about this right now. So peoples, don’t answer here regarding this I’ll pin the poll in the lounge.

^^; Oh my Goodness, BB! Please don’t feel like that! Yes I am a bit sensitive to things like that right now and I really wish I could keep it in my siggy, but that doesn’t mean you should stop doing your job! It’s for the best of the community. Those with…slow computers and whatnot.

I know how you feel though.(well, we can never FULLY know how someone else feels, but you know what I mean)  Bailey died three months ago, and everytime I think of her, it still stabs. I can still feel her fur and smell her cute little parsley breath. I have her little urn and photos & tributes in the bunroom, and so I know how important it is to keep our bunnies close to us by remembering them and honoring them. So hopefully I can figure out a way that that can happen for those of us who want to tribute and honor their lives online as well.
