around a year ago, my brother surprise gifted a bunny to his girlfriend (they both live in the same house as me and my parents) and i was in a lot of distress because he didn’t tell anyone about the rabbit and because i was scared for the well-being of the rabbit that was gifted and the rabbit that i have/had. my rabbit was around ~4 years old and theirs was a few months at the time (theyre 5years old and the other is a year old now). i didnt want them to bond or be together because  my brother and his girlfriend are at the age of moving out soon and so i didnt want either buns to suffer depression because their friend disappeared. the brother and his girlfriend insisted it was going to be okay and that they will be glad they met each other, but i still said no. as of now, they live in separate enclosures. ive started thinking about this again recently and i cant quite shake it off.

what do you think ? is it not right to keep these two bunnies from bonding ?

I think you did the right thing. Bunnies unlike dogs and cats don’t “make friends” casually. Once bonded, they are supposed to be inseparable and neither one should be taken away unnecessarily. And yes a large number of them do get depressed when the buddy disappears. In a worst case scenario, the bunny left behind could get so depressed that it stops eating and eventually dies (sounds dramatic but it’s possible).

Since your brother and his girlfriend are moving out, it’s best to just wait till then instead of bonding the bunnies. After all you do have a say in this considering that one of the bunnies is yours.
