So Harley has been a bit of an ass to Thumper lately and occasionally it seems like Thumper is sprinting away from Harley to their maze haven.

I know separating them is mean and can cause depression, but I’m worried I’m going to come home to find that the two of them have gotten into a big fight.

Should I put a barrier between the two of them so they can see each other but not touch?

I imagine this has been caused by Storm’s presence. If you think Thumper is in danger then yes, separate them. It’s not mean to separate if their bond is broken. What exactly has been happening?

I had to separate Luna and Atlas when we got Nimbus, because Luna was bullying Atlas. I thought it wasn’t that bad, and then one day she bit his ear and that made the decision for me.

If you do separate, then start ‘prebonding’ immediately, and swap all their litterboxes etc.

Are you able to supervise them for 24-48 hours? If so, I’d probably opt to re-cement their bond. If you are unable to at the moment then definitely go ahead and separate just to be on the safe side.

Harley is still grooming Thumper and Thumper is still grooming Harley. They will both lie down next to each other so they are comfortable with each other’s presence. Harley is usually mean to Thumper when I first put food down or bring their treats.

If I separate them, do I just swap their new areas or should I rotate Storm in as well even though she won’t be spayed for a few months?

Unfortunately I can only supervise them for more than 24 hours on the weekend and I don’t have any spare vacation at the moment.

Hmm, okay. In that case I would separate today and then perhaps do a few bonding sessions til the weekend and then re cement at the weekend if that’s do-able.

Is there a way you can move Storm so that the pair can’t detect her? If not it might be wise to keep the pair separate because Storm’s presence might be a constant problem.

Right now Storm is in my room and the only time H&T can see her is when I carry her to the table for her daily grooming session. H&T’s room is right next to mine so they can smell her but I don’t have a practical solution to that problem (half the doors don’t latch shut in my apartment).
