Two of my rabbits get along very well. They both have separate cages but live in the same room and get a very large amount of Out-time which they tend to spend together peacefully.  I’ve been wondering lately if maybe they would be happier living in the same cage?  But I’m not sure…

It’s not like they don’t see each other often, and they get out time for HOURS multiple days of the week that they spend together.  But would they be HAPPIER in something like a Double tier cage with ramps and platforms TOGETHER?  I was looking into the same cage my sister’s Chinchilla lives in, a Critter nation one (I think it’s a ferret cage actually).  Could the two rabbits comfortably maneuver all the ramp and platforms? They’re both kinda small 3.8lb rabbits?  I just want them to be happy… I’m just worried I’ll buy them a cage and they’ll hate it or maybe the close quarters will cause a fight?

          Two things here:

          1. Your rabbits should not live together if they are not completely bonded. There is a bonding template you can fill out in the “bonding” forum.
          2. Cages are generally much too small for rabbits, especially putting two in one. Each rabbit should generally have about 12 sq feet of living space, so an xpen may work out better, and you can place ramps and toys inside.

1.) Just got back from the bonding forum, I hope my post there can tell me if my bunnz are completely bonded or not!

2.) I acknowledge that the cages are really not large enough to home the rabbits, but for the most part they free roam my bunny proofed art room unless I’m sleeping or at work.  I just wasn’t sure if they would be happier together when I’m sleeping or working. I just wouldn’t want them to be together in a sardine can…

I replied to your post regarding whether they were bonded or now in the bonding section. 🙂

Bonded pairs do live together 24/7. So eventually once you deem them bonded, rather than buying a fancy double stacked cage, I recommend building a cube condo! You get a lot more space for them for a lot less money.

You can find some neat ideas for cube cages here: https://binkybunny.com/bunnyinfo/cubes/ , if you want to brainstorm about that possibility.

they probably will maybe just try doing it for a bit a day maybe like 30 – an hour

but if they already know each other go for it

if there is any fighting or anything remove them immediately because they might get hurt

I don’t own rabbit yet and never have but I’ve done loads of research.

Even though you said they get along, I would just to make sure they are going to be safe together. I would do bonding sessions everyday for a while and increase the time of the bonding sessions until you think they are good together. I’m not an expert! Just an idea. 🙂
