My mr. bunny Pacey lives in a room which is 16 ‘x 8’ it is attached to my room but he is acting very lonely lately. He doesn’t really play with his toys or anything just sleeps and eats he isn’t sick he was just at the vet. But when I bring him in my room he acts like he usually does running and playing with the toys jumping on the dogs and lots of binkies. I have an extra xpen and have been contemplating setting that up in my room and moving him there. So should I sacrifice his big room for more attention from me and everyone else in the house? Or should I leave him where he is?

Awe…he is just happy for the company. My bun has his own room with a maze and a castle and toys which he plays with…but he binkies like crazy when he is out and about.

Sounds like he can have the best of both worlds. Bunny proof your room and when you are there, let him join you.

My room is 100% bunny proof . If I didn’t have dogs he would be able to have his room and my room 24/7 since his room is attached to my room. I might move him in here on a trial basis and see how he does. If he hates it I can move him back. Don’t know just yet.

it really depends on what schedule he is on. if he is quiet and sleepy during the day, this is totally normal and he will be like that regardless of where he is housed. you’ll get more “bank for your buck” if you can interract with him when he’s most alert (morning hours, or later evening hours.) can you spend some time in his room? set up a chair, or better yet, sit on the floor with him?

I go in his room and sit on the floor when he is most awake but he just mopes around me until I bring him out of the room. His schedule is I turn on his light at 10 am he sleeps until around 10:30 am I give him his veggies and fresh water he ignores them. He stands at the gate waiting to be let out and plays in my room and the hallway for until 2 pm then back to his room. 3pm you can hear him crunching on the veggies and then he goes to sleep until about 4 or 5 pm. He mopes around occassionally pushes a ball then stands at the gate for 2 or so hours until I let him out at 7 pm he stays out and runs and hops non stop until about 2 am then he gets on me and goes to sleep so I put him back in his room. That’s his schedule at the moment. I try to work around his sleeping schedule lol.

If I have a bunch of stuff to do (rarely lol) he stays in his room until about 6 pm then is let out until he falls asleep at 2 am (it’s like clockwork) . Those are the days I spend as much time as I can sitting on the floor with him.

Maybe it’s just because I have not been home that much over the week due to Christmas Shopping and such.

can you leave him out in your room with access to his room during the daytime hours? if it is well bunny-proofed and he cannot get into trouble, that might work, even for when you’re not home.

No can’t do that I have 11 dogs one which weighs 210 lbs lol don’t want to risk him getting squished or caught up when they play rough. I may have my step dad build another door in his room so he can access the living room since there is always someone to supervise him in there. Lol I don’t know I will have to figure something out can’t have a mopey bunny.

That much space for the bun? You may want to look into getting a bunny buddy for him to play with! Rabbits are social critters and it sounds like he is just lonely – hence him perking up when he’s around you.

that’s a very good idea too. of course he’d have to be neutered first…

That’s already planned he will be getting neutered in Feb. since all the vets around me refuse to do it before 6 months old. A month after he is neutered he will start going on bunny dates to pick a potential bonding mate.

I honestly feel that giving Jessica a mate, Leo, was the best thing I could have done for her.  They are so happy together, though I think she only tolerates his messiness (like a good little wifey).  It makes me feel much better knowing they have each other in their condo when I’m off at work.

My bunny sounds a bit like yours, before I got Guppy, Cheeky my older bunny wasn’t super active. He’d mostly sleep and eat, hop around his xpen for awhile until I was able to spend time with him. As soon as I’d get downstairs and give him attention he would start zipping around the basement with binkies galore. If I wasn’t giving him any attention, he’d go back to a hidey spot or just flop over and sleep again. Ever since getting Guppy (even though the 2 arent bonded, they are housed right next to each other) Cheeky has gotten alot more active. He runs around his xpen and is overall just a more cuirous/happy bunny now that he’s got a friend. I would definately think about getting another bunny if it’s possible, like the other posters have mentioned. Once you see your bunny cuddled up with a friend you’ll realize how important bunny companionship is for our little ones. I realized that too when I saw how relaxed and comforted they are by another bunny’s presence.

But my gosh 11 dogs! That is something! Do you have trouble keeping the dogs out of the bunny’s room? I know some dogs can be relentless about that sort of thing, I know my old one was!

I am going to get him a buddy as soon as possible

Nope don’t have any problems keeping the dogs out they don’t really mind him. Only a few can’t be around him when he is out but they have caught more than their share of wild rabbits so I don’t trust them at all around him. The rest just lay around when he is out his favorite game is jump on the doggies back. My biggest dog will let him ride around on his back it is adorable.

When I don’t have a choice to let him around the rabbit catchers they stay behind a 3 foot gate since all are too short to jump more than a foot off the ground lol.

Well I’m glad! I’m actually getting a puppy pretty soon so I was worried about the whole buns and puppy deal for the obvious reasons. But if your bun can handle 11, then I think my 2 should be alright with 1 smally puppy! Also your bunny rides on your dog’s back, that is the most adorable thing, you have to take pictures! Your bun is super cute btw.

Lol I would still be very careful with the pup around the rabbits puppies are very very rough since they don’t really understand that rabbits are fragile. My newest dog thought he was a squeaky toy when I first brought him home so he wasn’t allowed to interact with Pacey until he turned a year old now that he is used to him he just cuddles when Pacey is out. I am trying to find a better camera so I will probably take a picture if the dog will stand still. I have had him for 3 years and have 2 pictures of him he refuses to come near me if I have a camera he he.
