She’s Spayed but I need help!

Hey everyone, I’ve ordered things from here before, great site!

I had some questions, My vet (recommended by the House Rabbit Society)
Performed a spay on my netherlands dwarf, Mina (Sweet, but a diva)

he said everything went perfect, and he stapled her closed and used tissue glue to help fight her messing with it.

She meeses with it constantly, she has pulled out a few staples, there were about 10 I think initially. and now theres 6 left, i brought her in after she took out 2, he said everything was ok, the icision looked like it was holding together just fine.

Shes has taken out 2 more, and he said if she keeps going at it, sadly they may have to suggest an E collar.

I saw a post on here about the Pro collar, Im getting this right now actually at petco.

I just… Is there any other way? i feel so bad.  And i’ve had to continuously pull her head from her pulling her stitched, i just take a peice of cardboard and put it in between her and the incision.

 

 

I’ve been home all day literally holding her wrapped in a small blanket and petting her so she sleeps in my arms so i can watch her, but i cant do this 24/7… Please help!

Unfortunately there isn’t anything else you could really do but that. She needs to have the incision heal or it’s just going to make it more painful and possibly could get infected. Just make sure she is able to eat with the collar on. Good luck! I hope your bunny heals quickly.

Ok, so im a crafty sucker, We MADE a collar that seems to work well, she can eat, drink, and everythign just fine.. she just cant reach her incision.

I just took a clean sock, cut off the toes, cut off the top part, and rolled it up. Stretched it out, she has plenty of room to breathe and shes eaten with it on, and drank, but she cannot touch the incision… Good idea or no?

Its my first bunny, I always had dogs and cats. but I just dont want her to hate me….

Welcome to the forum! I am sorry though to hear that your bunny was bothered by her sutures. I Am not sure if I am picturing the crafty sock collar right. So is it sort of like a bulky collar around neck that prevents her from reaching her stitches? We made a home made collar for our cat while he healed because the plastic ones were literally freaking him out, so I know it can be done. I think as far as doing this for bunnies, you want to make sure she doesnt get over heated. As long as she seems comfortable, (probably more so than some of the collar alternatives), and is eating and pooing normally, then it looks like you have made this situation easier for her.

It seems shes doing much better, I’d never had rabbits before, I have 2, Simon (half lop, half lionhead) and Mina (My spayed netherlands dwarf)

I just felt so bad for her, i didnt know what to do, but now, with her little white scarf/neckbrace she seems fine, shes eaten a ton of food. her litterbox looks like someone put some cocoa puffs in it. and she is dirnking alot of water and seems MUCH happier. Ill take a picture of what I did, maybe it can help out some other people too.
