› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › She’s here!. . . and I’m in love already.
Ok, so I went out to get her right after work. I got there and found out that she had been given NO hay and was being fed junk pellets. I got her in my car and she was on my lap on my way to the vets (it’s only a few minutes from where I picked her up). I was petting her and I seriously started to cry when I felt her ribs. . . she is incredibly skinny, like to the point that underneath her ribs, there is a dent where I guess fat should be?
So I got her to the vet and found out that beyond that, she is pretty healthy. She weighs less then five pounds right now and she should weigh between 6 and 7 pounds according to my vet.
Beyond that, she is terribly matted because I don’t think anyone who has owned her has really known how to take care of her. She doesn’t have as much stuff in her fur as I expected, but she does have several very large mattes that I will need to work out over the course of the next week or so. I think
That being said, she is absolutely the sweetest, most calm bunny I have ever met! I ended up keeping her on my lap for the entire half hour ride back here and she barely moved. I can pet under her chin and she doesn’t even care! Sorry but I find that amazing since both of my boys will bite me if I dare try to rub their chins.
Ok, I will give you guys some more information about her in a little bit and I will probably have a few questions but I just got her pictures uploaded (you can’t really tell she’s matted because she has so much fur) so I’m going to end this one here and add some pics to make up for my long post. . .
A headshot. . . . She definately is gorgeous!

She has been eating since I put some hay and pellets out so here are a few of her enjoying some of her new yummy food.

In that last one you can see a bald spot from where she was matted and they pulled out the fur to get rid of the matte, luckily they didn’t tear her skin, but you can tell it is pretty irritated.
Poor baby! She is gorgeous and I’m glad she gets to live with you now!
oh man she is such a cute ball of fluff! so glad you rescued her I know she will do wonderfully in your care!
yay a good home for a great bunny! Put a smile on my face ![]()
Yahoo!! She is gorgeous!!!!
She’s so lucky to have you!
Thanks guys! . . . . . I actually have her in my lap right now and she is grooming me!!!!! I’ve never been groomed by a bunny before. . . . . lol, kind of exciting!
Aaahhh! It’s a TRIBBLE! ^^ Aw she’s SO CUTE! *faints from adorableness*
How lucky that she came to you! She is probably thanking her stars every time that tongue runs over your skin! ^^ Congratulations!
More piccies when you can….PLEASE! ![]()
Oh wow I just love her too. I want one not for a couple of nearly 10 yrs tho. enuf with my 2. awe she does have a sore spot there I see. she is probably grooming you thinking thank you for some hay thank you for some hay over n over. yeah I hate that when I took mine home it appeared she hadn’t been given any hay either and she eats n eats n eats the hay and hardly touched her pellets at first. oh a happy bun good to see a happy bun good for her and for you how is Henri?
oh how sweet! she must know she’s in a good home, the cutie pie. she’s beautiful ![]()
I will definately post more pics, however before I do I have to warn you, I just spent an hour cutting and combing out mattes and I still haven’t got even half of them, so bascically, she might look kind of funny for the nest few weeks. . . . I’m thinking I will probably end up needing to trim all of her hair but I didn’t want to stress her out more so I stopped for tonight.
I’m sitting here watching my poor 16 yo daughter fight with her wiry poof of hair in her head as we have to go to town tomorrow (and probably cut the whole mid-back length mess down to maybe a half inch off her scalp) and I can TOTALLY relate! ^^ QWell, more piccies when she gets her lovely locks back then. We wouldn’t want to embarrass her. ![]()

Thanks, she certainly is precious!
Henri is doing good, he’s up to no trouble as always though. . . I told him I was bringing a new girl home for him and Acorn and he decided the best way to get ready to meet her would be to go play in the dirt downstairs!. . . lol, I guess he thought a little bit of color on his face made him look handsome or something. . . .

oh how sweet! she must know she’s in a good home, the cutie pie. she’s beautiful ![]()
I sure hope she knows she is safe here. . . . I know it is too soon for that really though, isn’t it? She does love my kiities though!! And they love her which is really exciting because atleast I know she will have some good company until her and the boys can really meet. . . Both Bentley and Mercury have already taken turns grooming her, and she returned the favor too, which is really good to see considering she has never met them before tonight.
LOL!!! I really needed that laugh, thankyou!. . . . please tell your daughter I am sorry for me. . . didn’t mean to laugh at her plight, but it sure puts my bunny’s into perspective. . . besides, I really needed that laugh after the very emotional few hours I’ve just been through.
Oh and don’t worry, I have a few more pictures of her from before (and some from after) hte intense grooming session that I can post while still kepping her dignity intact. . . give me a little bit and I will add them to this thread as soon as I get them uploaded.
Awesome. I don’t know from experience, but it sounds and looks like angoras take a lot of work. Those pictures of your new gal both warm my heart and make me sad. I’m sooo glad she’s in a better place.
The pics of Henry crack me up.
Thats so sweet that she is doing so much grooming already
She can probably tell that she is in a nice safe place now, she was probably craving some fellow animal friend attention in addition to some nice human attention. Hopefully she’ll get along with Henri and Acorn just as well as she gets along with you and the cats!
Here are some more pictures. . .
. . . . Hay, hay, hay, hay, hay, I love hay!
. . . a side shot

What a happy ending, Angoragrl ! I’m so glad you found this little girl & was able to bring her home. She already looks like she’s in heaven :o))
And that Henri ! LMAO ! What is it with these Angoras ? They just love getting dirty for some reason, LOL ! I told you the story about my Frosty & what shenanigans he got into the night before we picked him up ? His fur still isn’t right no matter what we do ! I am thinking of taking him to a groomer so that we can “start over” because he is so hyper he won’t allow us to brush him for more than 10 or 15 mins. He is always wanting to see what he can get into & we just had him altered, too ! I would’ve thought he would calm down somewhat since it’ll be a month coming up in the next few days since we had it done.
What characters !
I think I asked you this before, but what “tools” do you use to groom with ? Do you have a dematting comb ? I’ve been around to all the places here that sell grooming supplies for animals and I can’t find anything that I would deem beneficial to grooming long-haired rabbits, so I’m thinking I’ll have to end up ordering online :o( I have a slicker brush and another weird comb that was on clearance in the pet section of W*lm*rt that I picked up, but these don’t do a satisfactory enough job for my liking.
We actually rescued two buns about a month ago. One was an English Angora girl & the other a double maned Lionhead male w/pedigree. They were in cardboard boxes when we got them and the bottoms were soaking wet & peed & pooped up……..really disgusting. The Angora was so horribly messed up that we couldn’t even tell what sex she was ! I took pics of the boxes they were in as well as what she looked like before we took her to the groomers. We had to have her shaved because she was blanket matted so bad that she could hardly walk & her bum was so messed up with poo that I’m surprised she was able to go to the bathroom at all ! Hubby & I stayed with her while she got groomed/shaved & I broke down quite a few times because the poor thing was so scared. It took the lady 3 hrs. to shave her and she ended up knicking her tail on the tip because she couldn’t find the end of it because of all the matts…….I almost lost it when that happened & I had to walk outside because I didn’t want to look like a blubbering idiot. The groomer had to keep changing blades, too, because they were getting so hot from trying to get through the fur & she didn’t want to burn her skin. I will never forget that day as long as I live and hope we never have to go through it ever again !! I was so traumatized myself & wore out after that ordeal that I could hardly find the will or energy to do anything the rest of the day after we brought her home. I just wanted to hold and cuddle with her but I didn’t want to upset her any more than what she already was & I know her poor little tail was sore……..gosh, I’m tearing up just talking about it *sniffle*
She didn’t shave her head, belly or behind her legs because she was able to comb those out, so she looks like she has a “poodle cut” like the ones at the Westminster Dog Show, but she gets around so good now and is loving life. She actually has an attitude & thumps quite a bit, LMAO !
I took lots of pics of her but I haven’t gotten around to uploading them on my PC yet because of work, but will post them soon.
Anyway, I didn’t mean to take the limelight away from your new arrival. I haven’t had time to post much except recently with the trouble I was having with ordering stuff from BB , so I thought while I was responding to this thread, I’d give a little info on what’s been going on here. Please forgive me for that.
As always, I’m thrilled to see pics of Henri whenever you get a chance to post pics & now to have another Angora on the list is almost too much to bear ! We will now officially have 4 English Angoras here (counting the little girl I have yet to post pics of) !!
It doesn’t get any better than that ! :o))
Congratulations, again, Angoragrl !!! I’m so happy for both of you :oD
Is she one lucky bunny rabbit, I am so glad you have her, she will spend the rest of her earth life with so much love and attention.
Beautiful. I love happy endings!
Lol, our angoras sure do seem to be quite the characters don’t they?
As for the brush to get out mattes, I would go to the dog section of your local petsmart. They usually have a pretty good section of dematting combs and rakes there. I recently found one that has spinning tines so that they don’t get caught up in the wool and I really like it. I don’t remember the brand name or anything, but it is a wide tooth comb and I got it at Petsmart.
I’m glad to hear that your furkids are doing well, I must have missed it when you got the English girl and the lionhead. . . . seems like furry bunnies are taking over your life too! lol
OMG, she is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
She is so very happy, with all her lap rides and grooming of everyone she meets.
It isn’t the hay, she loves you! you! you! She knows she’s a very lucky girl.
I wouldn’t worry about stressing her too much from getting rid of the mattes. She hasn’t behaved stressed in any way so far, and remember that those mattes have bothered her more than anyone. She probably feels more light and clean and comfortable every time one is removed.
When have we ever complained after a poo and pampering at the hairdresser, hmm?
my heart is so full right now. i am so happy for you. and for her! i love the pics, esp. the one where she has hay on her face. looks like she’s ready to say “excuse me, do i have something in my teeth?”
i showed the pics to Michael and his response (remember he’s 4)… “oh she looks just like Meadow. but with red eyes.”
uh. not quite just like Meadow! lol.
he asked me what her name is and i’m thinking i missed it, what did you decide to name her?

Good point! I didn’t even think about it like that. The mattes were making it hard for her to move around even so I’m sure she is happy to get rid of them!

Lol!! Yep, just like Meadow. . . . . only with no spots and very furry! Gotta love the minds of little kids!
I don’t think you missed her name actually, I don’t think I have posted it yet. . . . . . It’s Lilly T Fluffybun. . . . lol, Lilly because she is my Easter Lilly, the T is in honor of a bunny named Tiny I know from another forum, and the Fluffybun part. . . . . well, one look at her will tell you where that came from.
I love your angoras!!!
and please…MORE PICTURES!
Also, a question: are there puffy white angoras without red eyes?
i know very little about breeds. along those lines, are there angoras that are not white?
Also, a question: are there puffy white angoras without red eyes?
lol, I will get some more pictures tonight I promise.
As far as the non red-eyed white angoras, I don’t think so but I could be wrong. I just looked up the standards from the breed registry and it looks like the only accepted eye color for white English angoras is red. I believe that as long as the entire bunny is white, the eyes are going to be red. There are pointed whites though too and I believe that they can have other eye colors.
Yep, there are black ones and pointed ones and even agouti ones!
awww thats the cutest ball of fluff ive ever seen in my life! soooo adorable im so glad it was a happy ending for you!
Here are a few more pictures that I got tonight. You’ll probably be able to tell I gave her a haircut to get rid of a lot of that extra wool. . . . . A lot of her gorgeous fluff is gone, but it should grow back pretty quick.

This is her favorite spot/position to lay in

a side shot. . .

Oh and I was wondering, right now the boys are divided from her by two gates, I don’t even think that Acorn has noticed that she is here but Henri has been watching her off and on all night. . . he doesn’t seem to be irritated at all (no thumping or anything, just watching), but she is completely ignoring him. I guess maybe she hasn’t noticed him but I am thinking she probably has. Either way, she hasn’t tried to go over and say hi or anything. Is this a good or bad sign as far as bonding is concerned?
She is one wonderful and very lucky rabbits that already loves you for taking her home! I bet she knows you are her forever owner now. What a long journey she has had to finally end up in the right home. You’re doing awesome Angoragrl!
from everything I’ve read on bonding ignoring is a good thing! yay for you I hope you have a miracle 3 way fluffy bonding ![]()
A very lucky bunny and she’s adorable also. it’s so nice to hear stories about rabbits being rescued and finding loving homes. ![]()
I bet they HAVE noticed each other. I imagine it would be like, well, George Clooney (for women) or Marilyn Monroe (for men) moving in next door. You’d be peeking at them and wondering how to say Hi, neighbor. I bet we’re not the only ones that think they’re both cuties.
OMG can’t believe I missed this thread!! Gorgeous NEW BUNNY !!! Congratulations!!
When she’s altered are you going to put her with the other two?? I ask because I’d die to see a pic of Henry and Lilly together *sigh* You are a saint to do all that work on their hair! Wow!
If I saw both Henri and Lilly next to each other, I’d probably try to put them on my feet.
Lol, thats great.
I do have one picture of them together, well sort of them together. The gate is between them. Here they are.

When she’s altered are you going to put her with the other two?? I ask because I’d die to see a pic of Henry and Lilly together *sigh* You are a saint to do all that work on their hair! Wow!
That would be the goal, yes.
Lol, they do look a lot like bunny slippers don’t they?
LOL Markus! You are a card!
All I can say is “EEEEEEEEEEEEEK!” I’ll pay you $5,000.00 for the fluffy bunny…lol. I’m so jealous!
You just HAVE to have a bunny wedding and post pics… but then you’ll need a gal for Acorn too I guess. Oh, well the more the merrier.
A bunny wedding huh? Now there’s something I hadn’t thought of. . . . As for a girl for Acorn, him and Henri seem to be getting along pretty well right now so I’m going to hope for a trio rather then two pairs.
So the boys are still together in their pen and I let Lilly out to explore again. She was over by the boys so I do have a few more pictures to share in a little bit. . . . Anways, she was sniffing at Henri and then she decided to do a bunny 500 lap and on the way back around, right in front of the boys pen, SHE BINKIED!!!!!!! sorry, just had to share that with someone who would care!
Oh, I do hope though that you aren’t thinking of separating the boys :~( I hope you can get them all 3 bonded. Henri seems like he will go with the flow, Acorn might be the challenge in the trio. They will all look so pretty together – 2 fluffys and one velvet bunny – it doesn’t get better than that.
Oh no, I’m not planning on separating the boys at all, in fact, they are still together right now. They’ve just been chilling and I really don’t want to separate them. That being said, I’m not sure what I should do when I go to bed tonight.
As for the trio thing, I’m sure you’re right about Acorn being the challenge. I am hoping that the kitties are going to help me out there though because it seems when he has a bunch of extra energy to burn, he usually plays with them for a while.
For now just keep things as they are if that’s what you are asking – but I’m not certain if that’s what you are asking.
I was talking about when I go to sleep, but yes. I was just wondering if I should separate them overnight. I really don’t want to if they are still getting along well, but I don’t know if it is wise to keep them together.
If the boys are getting along, I think I might take a chance and keep them together – you’ll have to do this eventually.
She binkied! That’s great.
I hope you don’t mind but I have never seen bunnies like yours in person, and the pictures of Lilly and Henry are so cute that I copied them and emailed them to my two best pals in Massachusetts. They live with large dogs (labs, etc.) and loved Spockie but he was their only bunny experience.
My friend replied: “I thought bunnies like this only came in slippers or the toy store!” That was before I read Markusdark’s reply. Well, great minds…
i asked in the other thread but i don’t think you noticed, or i missed your reply… do angoras come in other colors (sounds like i’m talking about a pair of shoes… lol!) or just white?
Angoras come in gray and black and red and mixed coats – all kinds of colors. My other rabbit rescue group that I was in once rescued 4 siblings – one was reddish orange, one was a smokey gray and the girls I think where white with brown or something like that – I’d have to look at the pictures that I have somewhere.
oh okay thanks!
i think i’ve only ever seen the three on here, these two and Tami’s new one.
She is SUCH a cutie! *sigh* LOLZ to Markus…you always manage to say something that just slays me! ^^ Bunny slippers indeed!
Can anyone tell me if the angora is related at all to the Jersey Woolly? Not that I would ever take one on, since I think that may be just a tad TOO much fur for me to deal with…but the breeds seem so similar, I wonder if they were crossed somehow and that was how they got angoras to be more than just REW’s?
Just a thought. Honestly, I was watching the PBS special on dogs recently and I still can’t fathom how we got chihuahuas out of wolves in only a few centuries of cross breeding. 0.o; DNA will never cease to fascinate me. ^^
ANYWAY, adorable little bun! I just want to snatch her up and snuggle her! ![]()
She is precious! It’s gonna be a fur fest when she and Henri are both shedding! You should pick up sewing!
Since it is the weekend, I’d suggest leaving the boys in the same pen overnight. Just keep a door open so that you can hear them if they start to make a ruckus. You could also use the ‘L Pen’ design I mentioned before. This stopped Maryann and Dono from going full on attack. Just put something in the way in the pen so that straight out running/chasing isn’t possible.
Actually they are both shedding right now, lol. Everywhere I go in the house I am finding little tufts of angora hair, and anytime I pet either of them, my hands get covered in wool.
Markus, I did decide to keep them together last night and they did well. They are running around the house now and I guess everything is going well. . . The circling hasn’t stopped yet but no one is getting bitten so I think we are doing good?
Mim and Pip did a bit of circling during their first bonding sessions. They still do from time to time, but it’s nothing aggressive. I would guess that as long as the teeth don’t come out, then they are doing well. ^^
A Jersey Wooley is a cross between an Angora and a Netherland Dwarf :o)
We rescued 3 Grand Champion show bunnies that were going to the sale barn (and end up who knows where…..maybe as lab experiments as we have one of “those” in our area) & the lady we got them from told us they come from breeding Angoras and Netherland Dwarfs together.
Angorglr, thanx so much for all the awesome pics you’ve been sending in of your buns ! I bust a gut everytime I see Henri now with that dirty face, LMAO ! God love ’em :o)
