So I’ve been posting in the bonding forum of my adventures in bonding mia and taylor. I’ve noticed Mia is shedding alot lately. Now spring is here, so that might be part of it, but i’m just wondering if the stress from the bonding would cause all this shedding and should i be concerned? they both are eating properly and everything. I am noticing alot of hair in mia’s poop.

It could be either reason, a normal shed or some brought on by bonding stress. My doe started a shed mid bonding and I almost took a break from it as she was a bit ansty. But it turned out to be fine to forge ahead. The best thing to help hair pass thru the gut is hay. It sweeps the insides and the long fibre strands pass through the gut faster than other foods.

You can try fresh pineapple or a bit of juice but use it like a treat – a small piece per day. Pineapple contains and enzyme called bromelain. This is said to help break down proteins. In rabbits, I’ve heard it help break down gunk around hair in the gut more so than the hair itself. Papaya also has an enzyme said to help in this.

Buns shed so frequently, it probably is just a coincidence that it’s happening during bonding. Unless the buns seem overly stressed, I wouldn’t stop bonding.
