Ok, I know that buns typically shed every three months, alternating light and heavy sheds.  But how long does each shed last?? Cadbury (mini-rex) started shedding at the end of November, and the fur is still flying!

Our rex (Curly Sue) sheds for weeks at a time, getting gaping holes in her fur where the old has fallen out and the new has not grown in yet.  The first time she had a major shed I thought for sure she had mites because the holes were so big!  Every bunny is different, some shed huge amounts at once and other seems to always be shedding.

Meadow’s been shedding for quite awhile.  she’s also a mini-rex.  i’ve just been grooming her once a day (sometimes twice a day if i remember) and it’s helping.  it’s funny because when i clean her cage and move her house where she sleeps, there’s a layer of fur on the side of the cage.  looks like a second bunny!

after 7 yrs i still havent figured a rhyme or reason to baby buns shedding.  it seems so be a slow & steady constant thing with very occasional tufts near her fanny.  still havent managed to get a good haul with any type of brush or comb (mainly because she hates when i try) but i will persevere!  between her & the dog & i, it’s like we have several extra dust-bunnays wafting around all the time dispite my daily swiffering habits.  i need one of those robot vacuum thingy’s.

if i can’t get her to sit still for some grooming, i very quickly run a damp paper towel over her and kind of ruffle her fur to pick up at least some of the loose stuff.  he seems to work okay (tho not as good as a full grooming) and it takes only about five to ten seconds.

My mini-rex is shedding too. He has a big bald spot on his bum and head. I hate shedding cuz then sometimes he gets those string of pearl poops and I get all worried I always try to feed extra papaya and fresh pineapple when I notice he is shedding a lot.

I just got a new slicker brush, and Cadbury is NOT a fan. It does get some fur out, though. When she really won’t stand for it, I just wet my hand and run it over her fur to pick up the loose hair. Glad she’s not the only bun that sheds a lot!

My bunnies also seem to have a consistent shed going on. I think its actually twice a year that they are NOT shedding as opposed to a twice a year shed! They love it when I brush them though, I think they see it as an all-over bunny groom so they will do little tooth purrs and loaf the whole time that I brush them
