Ok, Trixie has been doing great and we are totally loving each other, she’s taken a real turn with her personality and her litter habits and everything is going really well. I just have a question about her potty habits.  She doesn’t seem to pee (or poop all that much really) in the litter box in her cage. She has a litter box in one corner of “her room” that she does the majority of her business in, although i do find she potties in her diggy box and poops, well, as long as they’re somewhere in a 3 foot radius of her box, she’s happy . The problem is, Trixie is not a free range bunny just yet, I just can’t let a 10 week old baby have free reign of the house while I’m not there to supervise, so she’s in her cage for 8 hours while I’m at work. I let her out for about 45 minutes in the morning then she has hours of free play time when i get home at 5 and then she goes back in the cage at night while I’m asleep. I’d say she’s out of her cage at least 5 hours a day during the week, more on the weekends.

I plan to upgrade her living conditions soon (before I upgrade my own that’s for sure) but for the time being I’m really worried that she seems to be holding it for so long. Should I be worried? If so, how can I stimulate more pottying while I’m away?

I wouldn’t worry about her holding it for too long. If a bun hasta go, they’ll go. And some are very particular bout their potty habits though. Maryann refuses to go anywhere other than her own potty box. It made me a little worried for the three times I took her to the Rabbit Haven and she was away from her box for about 10 hours each time. But she was fine.

Could you move her cage over to the area where her favorite box is? If you put the cage up so the ‘indoor’ potty box is right next to the outdoor one, it will probably work.

my bunny Meadow is a weird one. she has had free-run of the house since almost day one, and she would always hold it. she would only use the cage litterbox, even tho she had another litterbox in the other room. her fav nap place was under the dining room table, seh’d lay there for hours, and not use the bathroom at all. i was also concerned, but it is true that if a bunny needs to go, they’re going to go.
