I have a 6 month old lionhead bunny and I’ve gotten her a playpen to live in but by now she’s adjusted to her items in her cage… I’d like to take out the cage so she has more space but she wont learn to use her litter box if it’s not in the cage, or her food and water, she will just pee and poop whenever she wants and it’s very frustrating it feels like dealing with a 6 year old who won’t give up diapers. I’d LOVE some help. If I leave her cage out long enough will she just learn to use her stuff again? thanks.

Is she spayed? It can be difficult to fully litter box train a rabbit who isn’t spayed or neutered. I think that you are talking about an x-pen when you say playpen. Surely if she sees that there is food and water in the pen, outside of her cage, she will go out there and eat and drink. Are you still keeping food, water and a litter box in her cage? That could be confusing to her. Put her food and water bowl and litter box outside of the cage. She does come out of the cage, doesn’t she?

Rabbits can be resistant to change, but she should love the new space that the pen gives her, and hopefully learn that her things are no longer in the cage. Rabbits do like to have a hidey box. Maybe you could take the cage out of the pen, unless you think that would upset her too much, and place a smaller box for her to go into.

She hasn’t been spayed just yet. She just turned 6 months couple days ago, she is litter trained but after I put her stuff out of the cage and into the x-pen she will ignore it completely and forget to use the litter box. She only goes in the cage to eat drink and use the litter which is why I’d love to remove the cage so she has just free space. I will try to just put a box in there to replace the cage and see if she will prefer that. Thanks for the help!
