The vet said he would use glue during the pre op exam but after the spay I realized they used sutures on her. She ripped them out 2 days after surgery and right now it’s day 3 and she has an open wound. It’s not bleeding or exposing and internal organs it just seems like the skin layer is open. I contacted the vet and they said the exotics doctor will not be in until Monday. Should I let them stitch her again knowing that she is going to probably rip them out? Is there any at home care I could do for her so it can heal without stitches?

This is more common than what you may think! Some vets will recommend a cone. you’ll want to discuss with your vet the best option. Until then, make sure to monitor the site and make sure the environment is clean to prevent infection. If you notice her picking at it further, try to distract her with a treat or something.

I’m not experienced with a post spay rabbit, but that’s what I’ve frequently read!

Is she on pain relief at all? Sometimes buns will pick at the incision if it is painful.

They might staple her this time. With Guinness, that’s what they ended up having to do (along with giving her some antibacterial meds) since she popped her stitches day after surgery.

She will probably have to wear a cone. Of of my boys had to wear one for a week after his because he kept biting the area. It’s sad to have to make them wear a cone, but just remember it’s only temporary and for her own good.
