Two of Starbucks babies are pretty big looking, one is noticeaby smaller than it’s siblings, this is the one she keeps remvoing from the nest, she sits on him as though she is feeding him but then just hops away and he fops around in the cage.  We put him back in the nest and he buried himsef under the other babies.  Should we be worried about her taking him out and how small he is?

I do remember that another member here had a small runt in the litter that his bunny had, and I seem to remember that he did the same as you, putting the bunny back into the nest when the mom would take him out. If she is not feeding him though, you may have to resort to hand feeding him. I do not have any experience personally with babies, but most of what I read online was to allow the mom bunny to take care of things because she usually knows what she is doing.

Sometimes these bunnies are true runts, and just end up being smaller than the rest of the group, and there is also something called a “peanut” baby, peanuts generally do not have a developed digestive system, and cannot live – I hope that I am not upsetting you too much, because I am not an expert on these things so can’t really tell you if it is a runt or a peanut baby, but its important you know that if it does pass away it is not your fault.

I also read online that sometimes it can help to let the small one eat first by cradling the mom bunny in one arm, and bringing the runt bunny up to her and allowing it to latch onto one of her nipples and feed until it is full.

Good luck! I don’t know anything about baby bunnies but wanted to give you good baby bunny vibes.

It was me with the runt. Kibou kept removing him. If your mummy bun is doing this, she knows something is wrong with him and he will likely die or be eaten by her. Thats what happened to mine.
Nature knows best. He’s not meant to live.

This is hard Sarah – I know you already feel bad because Starbucks was pregnant when you got Him/Her – but if she is rejecting the baby, she truly may sense something about him/her that you can’t .

This may be why she keeps moving him/her out of the nest – to keep any predators from the “healthy” babies. I’m curious to see what she does in the next day or so-

Lion Lop – how long before Kibou ate her runt? Perhaps that can give Sarah a timeline of when she should be watching for survival or death.

It sounds, though, like the other two are healthy and thriving.

Oh, I forgot that happened to your litter LionLop – the one I was thinking of was the rescued litter that Osprey had.

sinistermooess – here is the link to the thread I was thinking of: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/forumid/8/tpage/1/view/Topic/postid/23997/Default.aspx – it could be helpful because it is the whole story of a rescued bunny and her four babies from the time they are rescued to when they grow up, so it is helpful as well as very heartwarming

Well, she kicked the baby out on Day 2, I nursed it for 2 days and then put him back overnight and he was gone in the morning. When I look at pictures of him, you could see how decrepit he looked compared to the healthy babies and you can tell something was wrong with him.
