        Long time no post!

I searched the forum and saw in an old post that many of you guys share your rooms with the bunnies, and I was just curious to how you guys deal with all the shedding?! I know most people worry about the noise, but I’m not bothered by that.. however there is bunny fur everywhere!

Do you guys think getting an air purifier would help too?

My lucky buns have had their own room for awhile now, but my sister is moving back after college and so looks like me and the bunnies will be roommates!

Any other suggestions / tips / advice when it comes to sharing a room with your bunnies would be greatly appreciated!

        — edit — added a recent picture of Buster and Lola since I haven’t posted in a while!!

Hmm, I would suggest brushing your rabbits everyday.

Someone also mentioned they do their grooming in the bath tub. I haven’t tried it but it sounds like a genius idea as I feel I get more fur in the air by grooming!

I vacuum a ton. I found that having carpet and having the buns on a blanket for their cage flooring helps the hair from flying every where. So I vacuum a lot to help keep the hair manageable. I ditto TL brushing does help a lot.

Aw, how sweet are they?! Is Buster still a cheeky boy?

Timbu allows me to share his room.
Sometimes (like the last 3 mornings) I wonder why oh why have I done this! He burrows & digs in the sheets in the early hours.

I have wood floors so sweeping or vacuuming up fur is no biggie but it travels far on those floors. If you’re going to have an area (pen?) set up for them, using fleece traps fur well & putting some boards or chloroplast around the pen/cage sides will help contain fur/hay/ flying poo etc.

Are they free ranging currently in this other room?

On air filters, I think they’d help with reducing dander, hay dust & pollen, smells etc. I suppose it will trap in airborne fur but the filter would need cleaning more frequently.

If you have allergies, an air purifier is a must. But, it doesn’t do too much in keeping fur down. Powder is a shedding machine and after about a week, there is so much of his fur on the carpets that I have to empty the vacuum twice to vacuum one room. I swear he loses more fur than his body should be able to hold every day (and yet he never seems to have lost any looking at him). It gets in my computer fans, on the carpet, sweeping it up at the end of the week off their wooden floor room is like busting open a pillow of rabbit fur (you can just see it swirling through the air and it gets in my nose!). One thing that helps while you are cleaning, if you’re sweeping, is to wet the floor down a little first so less of it gets in the air and more stays on the ground. And frequent brushing to get as much loose fur off as you can. The buns that don’t shed much except during a molt aren’t too bad (Stickers doesn’t lose much at all), but the year round shedders, there is little hope for not having fur around if you’re rooming with them.

Thanks for the tips guys! I’ve been busy moving and painting so I dind’t have time to check the forum!

I didn’t get the air filter since allergies aren’t a problem, and I agree with needing to change the filter allllll the time. I’ve finally “moved” into “their” room, and it seems OK so far! THey have towels and a few blankets, but we recently put some cardboard on top of the flooring (much easier to change), and that seems to be catching a lot of the fur! So I just run my vacuum over it and tadaaa! I vacuum everyday though to keep those dust bunnies (har har) at bay! I groom them once a week (they don’t like it), but I’ll try doing it more frequently to see if it helps!

And Jerseygirl – haha yes Buster is still pretty cheeky, but I”m glad he’s not as shy as he used to be.

I share my bedroom with 2 bunnies they are in seperate cages. 1 of my rabbits is disabled. I have a bunny named sunshine who is an american sable it seems like she sheds all the time. I literally could make a sweater out of her fur that is how. I use a hand held dirt devil to pick up the fur almost everyday or everyother day and it is great to pick up lose poops which is has been doing lately. I actually attached cardboard around the outside of her to keep the fur in her cage. I will post a picture later. The noise now doesn’t bother me but when I had the cottontail cottage in her cage she would be up at 3 am shredding cardboard. She destroyed it and I wasn’t putting another one in her cage because I wasn’t sleeping. You get use to it after a while and it is great because you can bond with them. Have fun!

I share my room with my bunny and he is beyond fuzzy. I brush him everyday and either put the hair that I gathered from grooming him outside for the birds or what I normally would do, is put it in the small garbage bag I use for when I clean his litter box and cage. Once the grooming and cleaning is done, I will tie the bag up and throw it away. I also vaccum at least once a day, not only having a bunny but my family also has four cats that always come in and play with him during the day. I will also wash my bedding once a week just from traveling fur from him to me to my bed. I clean clean my room once or twice a week depending how dirty it is too (I love everything to be clean anyways). Otherwise the fur is not bad at all, once you decide how clean you want your room to be and what your gonna do to keep it that way.
