I have a shag rug in the room I let my bunny run around in, and when he gets his free roam time, he often digs at it and I cannot always tell if he is chewing it. I’m considering moving it somewhere else in the house and replacing it with something less shaggy, is it dangerous if he possibly ingests little strands of the rug, (it is made of plastic.)

If he happens to ingest the odd little piece, it’s probably harmless. But if he starts munching on it, it could potentially cause intestinal blockage  so of you see tendencies towards munching, remove it.

He doesn’t eat it like food, he just nibbles here and there. I think I’ll watch how he acts with it a little while more, and if it’s unsafe I’ll move it somewhere else. I think he likes it because he can dig and play on it.

I have a similar issue, my bunny loves burrowing and chewing on the pieces of the carpet, I move him, give him toys, even took up the rug and moved it. He found it and got to chomping! It’s an old rug so I’m not worried about the rug but more worried about him pulling it up and chewing/eating the bottom part which has some plastic grip parts. Are there some things I can get him to stop chewing on our carpets and give him an alternative for digging?

My carpet-chewers liked cardboard cat scratchers as a safe alternative. Then I cover up “hot spots” with heavy ceramic tiles. Buns tend to get obsessed over specific spots so blocking those spots can help.
