shadow and the t.v.

About a week or two before we got shadow we moved from a condo to our new home  While we were packing  we looked at the glass doors that  closed off our bottom section of the tv stand where we keep the  dvd player and the cable box  thought out loud to each other ‘ we don’t need those ” and tossed them.  Well  shadow came for a visit and then now for a stay and we are really wishing we had those glass doors as sometimes when  she is out hoping along and behaving her self  she will then look at us give us a wink lol  and hop through that little opening. This means she is now behind the t.v. looking at all the great wires and making sure she is the only one back there.  We used wire covers but its still unsafe for her to be back there.  I have heard that spraying perfume  on something will make them stop  scratching but will it deter her from going back there?    I guess we could always find some kind of cover and then our problems would be over and I am sure everyone is asking yes why don’t they do that and geez they post all the time about shadow are they really fit parents?   I hope you guys  understand  we just really love all the advice we have recieved from everyone  and think this website is wonderful (hows that for sucking up?)

LOL, excellent job of sucking up. Seriously, I would get replacement doors. My house is such a dust magnet, that spraying anything just makes a mess. Not to mention I would get sick of the smell way before my Shadow would. Wire management is something that made me crazy and cranky way before bunnies came into my life and now its even worse. There are some rooms I just close the door rather than start pulling furniture and bookcases away from walls.

We had this discussion on another thread about products to deter chewing etc.  I would NOT use perfume as it can be very toxic.  I read this in Rabbits for Dummies. Others will disagree with me on this. I definitely would use a natural product.  If I can find that thread I’ll post it here but it will take some looking.

Edited: I can’t find the thread I am looking for but if you search “chewing” there are a lot of ideas.  Also check Bunny Proofing Your Home under Bunny Info above for some great ideas. I think I would try to solve the wire problem before spraying them.  Good luck!

lol.  you never know when there’s a creative solution to a bunny problem right?  in this case i’d have to go with the ‘find a cover’ solution unfortunately as i have never been successful in deterring a bun from a favorite hidey-hole any other way.  not that i have tonnes of experience like the community leaders or some other members here   good luck!

good job hehe what i have is like a sheet of corrogated (sp) plastic and i cut it to the length of the wall to the end of the tv and i keep it behind out sofa so when the rabbit is out i just slip the plastic infront of the tv, we can still watch it and bunny cant get to any of the wires it worked so well i got another sheet for the computer i know you said you didnt want a cover but as this is so cheap and can easily be stored i hope it helps! it is cheap also, i picked it up for about £2 if not you could just try stomping your foot and saying NO! then moving the bunny to another place so they will get the idea eventually finally how about putting something like fake flowers or ornaments or pictures there so the bunny wont be like ‘oohh theres a big open space i bet i could climb through there!’ as it would have to knock everything down and is likely to back out once it knocks something over the first time

I had also found large flat sheets of clear acetate (heavy, about 1/8″ thick) in a hardware store. They cut it to any dimensions I asked for. I would just stand these against my bookcases, the TV stand, etc. which would block the bunny. I could see through them, so my bookcases still showed, but he couldn’t have a paperback snack. He gave up any effort to wedge behind them. He knew what it meant, I think. Plenty of more interesting things to explore elsewhere…

we use a low x-pen in front of our entertainment center – so it protects the tv, dvd player and various game systems. It works well since it’s not too high and we can still easily use the remote and access everything.

i hvae found that now it has been there a while he isnt interested in going in there and now i dont bother with it i am actually lucky because hopsotch doesnt chew and isnt really interested in squeezing himself into little places
