Three weeks ago my female bun had four kits.  I did not know she was pregnant but both rabbits are now separated.  I had taken both to a vet and was told they were both girls and the male rabbits ‘breeder’ (I am using that term very loosely) said he was girl.  I did not get him (Morgan) from a breeder but my aunt who got him from a breeder.

My question is when they are to be weaned I know they need to be separated into the boys and girls but obviously I can not tell the difference.  I am looking for somewhere to take them that would have better expertise in distinguishing which is which.  I live in West Virginia, near the Kentucky and Ohio borders (about 3 hours from both Columbus and Lexington).  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I do not know of any breeders or rabbit savvy vets around the area.

A little about me since I have posted once but it’s been a few months ago.  My name is Ashley and I’m 26.  Married and we have ten pets (2 dogs, 2 cats and 6 rabbits.  It was supposed to be 2 rabbits but we all see what happened ).  I’m not sure if we are rehoming the kits are not, I think at least one is staying here but I’m not sure.  My big concern is just separating them by gender and planning for when that needs to be done.  Thanks in advance.

there is a website that shows how to sex buns.  I dont’ remember what it is called tho.  Maybe someone else here does.

Sexing young buns can be difficult.  First the male has a circle  as opposed to a female having a slash. Hold them on their back and press on their genitals and something will pop out being either a circle or s slash.  However I think it is easier to tell once the kits are about 8 weeks.  Though people do sometimes make mistakes on this.

The male’s testicles will drop at 4 months.  Apparantly the female won’t have any.   Thats the best I can do for you.   As I said earlier I am sure others here do know the website and could give it to you.

Females can be impregnated at 3 months the males are fertile at 4 months.

Welcome ladyonslaught! Unfortunately that happens alot! It’s hard to sex bunnies, but you’d *think* the vet could have sexed better! Too bad!

Would love to see pics of your baby bunnies!!

Anyways here’s a site that helps sex and it will be harder until about eight weeks….http://www.debmark.com/rabbits/sexing.htm

If you’d like when you are sexing, have someone take pictures and post them on here (Don’t worry-lots of us have had to post pictures of our bunnies privates on here for help!!) and then we can all weigh in and help you!

                welcome here!

oh that’s frustrating! well, at least there were only 4, there could’ve been much more! i don’t have anything to add on the sexing, it sounds like they got you pretty much covered. i will encourage you to continue looking for a rabbit savvy vet near you. if you need help with this, let us know and i’m sure we can find someone… this will be necessary when it’s time to have everyone spayed and neutered.

There is also this site. At the bottom, it has links to show you whether your bunny is a boy or a girl.
