Yay my favorite tank is back in business!

I am going to paint the stand black tomorrow to spiff it up a bit.

I litterally just finished filling it with water and put Peal, my albino oscar in. She’s not too impressed atm. I used 75% of her tanks water so it wasn’t a hard transition at all

I think I might trade her in and get fancy goldfish. I love red cap orandas. I don’t know though.

I’ll post more pictures when I add plants and the water settles.

I joined 2 fish forums and this lady told me my fish was unhappy in the tank and how ever could it fit through the tubes….

I already stated that this tank design isn’t best suited for large fish and I didn’t know how it was going to work out with my oscar, although I have had her for several years now and I am attached.

The fact is now that she is even more active than before and if I am at the computer, she comes to the side closest to me, and if I am in my bed she goes on that side to hang out. It’s really neat. Her appetite is larger and she fits just fine through the tubes.

It was just funny that someone tried to tell me that my fish is unhappy when I already stated I was unsure of how she would do in this “different” tank. And just telling me from a photo that she’s unhappy ….good thing I didn’t mention that she didn’t have air for several days as Indybun bit through the aquarium filter and I didn’t even know it because it was so quiet………..eeeek. Leave it to Indybun I swear….Mr. Destructo.

I don’t know I am just flustered, being that I was so exicted and took half the day to set this tank up, clean it all up and get it ready for Pearl then this random internet person just basically tells me how horrible I am for keeping her in this tank – even after I stated that I might give her to the aquarium store and trade her for fancy goldfish because of her size. (Which even that doesn’t make much sense since fancy goldfish can get as big as her anyways). I busted my bum cleaning up this tank, I mean to me 80 gallons isn’t some tiny tank, this is large and delicate with the tubes and I had to take it down a flight of stairs. JEeeeeez!!!

It’s almost ironic that it’s like a new member coming here with a petstore bought cage for their rabbit and they didn’t know that bigger was better, or how cheap a grid pen could be or to just buy a dog xpen ….its like I feel like I am being shunned for having this 80 gallon tank, OMG shame on me it’s not 300 gallons it’s only 80 you horrible fish keeper you!!! About 2 years ago I tried joining a large catfish forums….but I didn’t fit in at all….all those members had 400+ gallon tanks and could swim in them themselves. Sigh lol.

In short……fish forums stink. I hope you guys can put up with me talking about my tank here lol.

Awww…and you’re thinking of giving Pearl away? But she comes to your side of the tank when she sees you! 0_o
That is a cool setup. Will it have any flora in it or gravels?
I think she’s awesome. And goldfish…wow…I still get tears in my eyes when I think of that little feeder we had for over 12 years…I miss my Shims.

Mimz I was in such a rush to set it up and take down the other, I was just focused on making sure the water was going to be okay and that I got enough good bacteria in there for Pearl to be safe.

I know I don’t want to get rid of her at all, she seems fine in this tank, my other tank I think was worse because it was so tall, this tank she has more room side to side even if there is tubes.

I will add more river rock, I can’t do live plants since she would uproot them. Oscars are very “busy” fish and love to do their own decorating. They make fake plants now on a base that look pretty real, The one I have is 3 foot tall so that won’t work in this tank hehe. I have plenty of river rock that I need to clean off. I wasn’t using it so I added it to the garden. I am quite the rock hound

I do really like her a lot, I don’t want to get rid of her and only will if there was something wrong but so far its working well and the goldfish can wait.

Oh I was at the fish store the other day and they had baby 2 inch long albino oscars like mine. I almost fainted away from how cute they were. I was like eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee baby Pearls!!!!!!!!!!

Lintini I totally know what you mean about fish forums!!! Ugh, I was on one for awhile and stopped because I was looked down upon for only having a 25 gallon, community. If I had unlimited funds and space i would have tanks out the ying yang but that’s just not realistic for most people.

Cool! I wish I could have a cool aquarium. lol I did look into it some but it seemed like a lot of work and expense so I decided aquariums weren’t for me.

Well….to make anyone feel any better, I kept 2 beta fish in separate bowls. I didn’t know that they actually did better with air filters, etc because most information just said that bowls were fine. They lived for about 2 years too so I was doing something right. haha

Yay added some of the river rock I hand picked out a few years ago and cleaned off some plants ….I got attacked multiple times in the process. lol. I forgot to add the fish people told me to get her a friend…..uhm yea she attacked the last 2 and I had to bring them back. Maybe I’ll get a pleco again if I can find a decent size one.

My walls are a pastel green color so I think that’s why the water looks greenish. I like all the new rocks I added. I just love fish tanks

Looks nice, you do better with fish than I can … I don’t understand their care at all lol I fish sat once, that is all I will subject a fish to my care for though and then I need a long list of instructions from the owner.

I can’t be too mad at people who want the best care for animals…though I tend to tell people to be nice in their advice giving, no one listens to rude advice. Sure your tank may not be huge with all the bells and whistles, but at least you are trying to do the best you can for her – better than what most fish owners do I am sure! That is a pretty large tank for your average house hold.

Thank you my point exactly!! 80 gallons is a large tank for a normal household! But if you really really really are into fish, you get HUGE tanks, like….300+ gallons or go home. Lol.

In my opinion she likes the tank a lot, she loves swimming side to side and checking out all the new rocks….I mean I even got attacked so she’s feeling really great haha!

Looks really nice, and with the river rock, Lintini! Your oscar sure has plenty of room and he can switch off from hanging out in one section, or the other! Congratulations. Where do we find the video tour of your bedroom, or did I miss it?

Nice tank! Where did you get one that shape?

It’s strange that the people on the fish forum were rude to you. As far as I know, the minimum tank size for Oscars is something like 60-70 gallons. I’ve actually been planning to set up a 75 gallon saltwater reef in the near future, so I’ve started posting on a very active reef forum. Small (<40 gallon) tanks are very popular for reefs and certainly not frowned upon there.

My neighbor gave it to me as a gift, I used to fish sit for him. I came home after rehearsal and it was in my garage for me.

It’s custom built and made out of plexi glass. I know he paid over 1k for it. I had the best neighbors ever, too bad he moved away

Lintini your tank is amazing! I have a fish tank too but unfortunately it came with a bully fish so I cant add any more fish to my tank either. Mine is 60 gallons so smaller than yours and I have an orander goldfish and a blackmore. My buns also like to hide behind the fish-tank and try and chew the cables for the filter, so we had to move it into the hall.

I love that your tanks are joined, I have never seen that before. oh and some fish like to be on their own and view others as a threat. I found that out the hard way. Im lucky enough to have an amazing pet shop near by with a very dedicated and knowledgeable shopkeeper.
