Kay & Winston have been with us for about a week and a half.

I am doing a pretty good job of establishing a routine. Rabbitat clean up & meals at the same time.

I give them thier morning treat. They practicaly attack me – well, crawl up on my lap – to get it. J. gives them thier evening treat. He lays down on the floor and Winston comes over to give J. bunny kisses on the cheek.

They have the door to the pen open while I am home giving them full acces to the kitchen. But, they hardley ever come out – A little in the morning, Most exploring is done in the evening. They have yet to make it all the way across the kitchen floor. Forget going into other rooms! Even though they could if thy wanted to.  Mostly they come out a few feet and then run back into the condo.   Winston has come out much further than Kay.  He has even done a few binkies. They also like to streach out right by the condo door.

We had a little bit of a poop war on the second level of the “condo” for about 2 days. Winston had it all to himself for the first week. Then Kay started to go up there! Oh, my.

They don’t seem very intrested in toys. But, Kay does a nice job of keeping them tidy and in the right spot.   I gave them a phone book – nothing. Winston likes to dig in the box in the condo. So, I made a diggy box. It is right outside of thier condo – like 1 foot away. They will NOT go into it. However, thay have reached in enough to steal a few treats out of it.

I sit on the floor and read to them. They listen and groom each other.

They do allow us to pet them, This morning Winston licked my knee. Kay does lots of great big streaches & yawns. She is quite a flopper!

But, that is about it. I realize this all takes time. It is really hard not to “grab them & hug them and squeze them & love them all over & call them George!”

What do you think? So far so good?

It sounds like they are settling quite nicely. It took my bun Gus about a month to finally leave the laundry room. Now he is hardly ever in his pen. He eats breakfast in there and goes in there periodically, but spends most of his time in the living room next to the fireplace.
          Just give it some time!
          They’ll come around.

Maybe try putting down some towels on the kitchen floor. I know my bun Maryann HATES the feeling of linoleum and tile under her paws. Maybe that’s why they don’t go too far as they don’t have any traction in case they need to run away.

good suggestion markus.  its been just over 2 weeks since i adopted pinky bun and although she’s not shy at all with climbing on me when i’m sitting on the floor or coming near me for head pets, she is still tentative when she’s out of her enclosure and off of the utility mat in her bedroom (hardwood flooring).   she has poked her head outside the open door into the hallway but not yet set foot there.

sounds like your buns are adjusting quite well   i know what you mean about wanting to pick them up & hug them!   i still haven’t earned enough trust or skill to smoothly pick up pinky.  at 8lbs she’s quite a handful.  i can get her up but then it all goes terribly violent & i have to drop to my knees so she doesn’t plummet too far if i can’t hang on long enough to properly set her down.  i’ve sustained some pretty nice gashes from her flailing thumpers… even one behind my ear (was a big blur… don’t know how it happened)

Awe you got a bunny love lick! I agree it may be the linoleum or tile floor. You might want to try some rug landing pads in strategic spots. It does take a while, but glad to hear how things are progressing, you’re doing so well! They’ll be all over in no time!

it sounds like they’re starting to settle in – it is likely they’ll get more adventuresome over time. I think a rug could help too – I really like the rag style rugs – that are inexpensive and can easily be tossed in the washer. bunnies don’t really like slippy floors, so the traction is likely to encourage them to explore more.

aww, it’s so sweet that you’re reading to them.

Give it time, it is going smoothly, they are calm and happy. As for toys, Shadow took months before he showed interest in anything. I just put a selection of things, wire cat balls, a phone receiver rattle, a straw carrot rattle etc. All he does is take them and throw them down his ramp and calls it a day. His favorite toy. a rolled newspaper tube the bf waves at the dogs and cats. Shadow takes it, lines it up with his body and hikes it through his back legs. He can do that for hours. His other entertainment is climbing. He has cardboard castles and boxes he plays in. Every bunny is different. My first bun loved and played with every toy she ever got.

Babybunsmom…I know what you mean about picking them up. Trying to give Shadow his meds after the spay was unreal.  I had gotten to a certain point where I could get him on his back to try to trance him for nail clippings and the stinker would fake me out.  I as so relieved his meds are finished. I have to explain the claw marks came from a battle with 4 pounds of fur and teeth…yes he got my finger…just enough to let me know he could do worse if I don’t back off.

I guess I forgot to mention – There is carpet. A local carpet store told me I can come by any time and get scraps – for free! I have actually gotten a bunch of 10 foot by 3 foot sections. There are bunny paths all over the place!!!! I have noticed they will go off the carpet if they are feeling confident and safe.

I am also saving up to get more and bigger rag rugs – cotton, (not nasty carpet stuff) cute & washable! Works for me.

As for the reading to them – I read that they like to hear you voice and I am one of those strange women who does not like to talk on the phone. I don’t have the shoe thing either – go figure!

                      Bunny kisses totally tickle.
