Could you folks take a look at this picture and tell me if you think Pip is doing this to herself or if Mimzy could be doing this? It’s on the farthest part of her hind end and looks just like what she does to her chest fur. She is shedding right now too…do lionheads lose whole chunks of hair out of their pelts like this while shedding? Or is she being barbered? The shorter hair is chunky and looks like it got run over by a lawnmower.

Is he shedding? I was thinking maybe those are sheddy-bald spots?

Yes, she’s really losing hair. My daughter and I were covered in it last night. >.<

I hope it’s just that, I’d hate to think one or the other of them is pulling all that out. 0_o

It is unlikely, but possible that Mimzy could be doing that to her since bunnies like to pull out the hair of the other’s behind when going through bonding, but usually you would see that in different areas AND you wouldn’t see the hair growing in at the same time you noticed the chunk missing.

So I agree with KK. It looks like molting to me. The fact you can see the hair growing in at the same time you see hair missing/or shortened, means it’s most likely growing in and pushing the hair out at the same time.

Some rabbits lose chunks of hair in sections. Not uncommon.

I’m also wondering if Mimzy is helping Pip with her shedding by pulling it away just a bit, and it comes out in chunks. Kind of like when we brush or pull a little tuft and a bunch comes off because it’s been shed already and just needs to drop off. (In those hard-to-reach places.)
