About an hour ago my rabbit suddenly ran out of her hideout while she was napping and fell on her side and started flopping and twisting around and freaking out. I kept trying to pick her up but she was moving around so much I couldn’t get a good hold on her. Finally after like 10 or 15 seconds it ended and she seems to be able to walk fine now but won’t take food, which is expected since it was very scary. I’m on the way to the vet now. Does this sound like some kind of seizure or something? Is it possible she was dreaming or something?? This morning my binkybunny package came for her and I gave her a few dried willow leaves from it. Is it possible she had a reaction to those? That’s the only new thing I’ve given her that I can think of. She’s been acting completely normally before this so I’m very worried :/ Anyone know what could be wrong?

This definitely sounds like a seizure. At least from what you’re describing anyway. I think the willow and seizure are just a coincidence though. I’m glad you’re on your way to the vet. Keep us updated on what’s going on!

I agree it sounds like a seizure and the willow is probably unrelated! Keep us posted on what the vet thinks! The first thing that comes to mind is EC, which is treatable!

update: i just got back from the vet and they said that she seems healthy. they said there can be many different causes for a seizure, one being E cuniculi, so they gave me some panacur to give her once a day for a while just in case she has it even though they don’t see any other symptoms of it. they also gave me another medicine to give her if she would have another seizure but i can’t remember the name.

does anyone here know if panacur safe to give? are there any risks with giving it if she would end up not having EC?

we just got home and she’s just hiding right now, i got her to eat a few pellets but she won’t eat anymore, hopefully when she calms down a little she’ll start acting more normally.

this is sort of unrelated but i noticed that it looks like her 3rd eyelid is showing in the corner of one of her eyes, at first it looked like her eyes were just watering and while we were there i asked the vet to look at it. she said it looked okay, but now that we’re home it’s looking more like her 3rd eyelid is showing. is this anything to worry about or is it okay if i just watch it and hopefully it goes away?

Panacur is very safe. It takes a long time to work, the recommended course is 28 days at 20 mg/kg. Since EC tests are unreliable many vets will treat on suspicion. It can take 2 weeks or more to see an improvement. Some vets will also give an anti-inflammatory med at first because a lot of the symptoms are due to inflammation.

If she doesn’t start eating you will need to syringe feed her and should talk to your vet about that, but it’s likely she is just stressed from the ordeal and will feel better in a few hours.

the vet gave me enough panacur for 2 weeks, i just gave her the first dose a few hours ago and she seems to be doing okay right now, she’s just napping. she’s pretty much back to normal and eating a ton again, just seems a little worn out from such a long day yesterday. i think what i’ll do is give the panacur for the 2 weeks and keep a close eye on her, and if she shows any more symptoms or has any more seizures after the panacur is gone i’ll bring her back to the vet for more and to get her tested. the vet didn’t test for ec because it was a friday and she didn’t want to cause any more stress than she had to. but i’m hoping this was just a one time thing.

The third eyelid protruding can be due to stress too. I hope she is feeling better today and was able to calm down enough to eat on her own. As Dana said, vets will often treat for EC on suspicion. Panacur is safe and there should be no worry in treating her for EC even if she doesn’t actually have it.

yep i think so too, this morning her eye seemed a lot better and the 3rd eyelid isn’t visible anymore, the hair around it is just a little crusty from her wiping at it last night.

she is feeling much better today and is eating lots again, just seems tired from having such a long day yesterday. i gave her the first panacur dose today and she seems to be doing okay with it, but i’m hoping this seizure was just a one time thing. if anything else happens i’ll update!
