So I decided Scooby’s dog crate was outdated so this afternoon me and the boyfriend decided we were going to make Scooby a new cage. We went with the NIC style with a wooden bottom with a dog bed ontop of the wood and then a second story to relax on, on the second story there is wood being covered by a towel. After seeing some of your other set ups they kinda put mine to shame but I am pretty proud of it.

All together it was about $100 with the dog bed being the most expensive part at around $40 (his comfort is worth it 😉

        Here are some pictures.

That’s a great cage design! You should be proud of it!

I have been watching him for a while, watching him explore and such. It is the FUNNIEST thing when he jumps from the first to second level he is so fast!! I think he really appreciates the extra space. He can now have room to play with his toys and such in his cage when I am not home. Unfortunately his cage can’t be as large as some because my apartment isn’t that large but this is a step up for sure from his smaller dog crate. Hopefully he will be a happier bunny now that he has more room to relax in.

On the second floor it is just a towel covering the wood (figured that was better than just the mesh stuff) do you think that is enough? The dog bed on the bottom is a therapeutic one so it is very soft on his little feet, but I just don’t know if the top is soft enough.

great job!  i’m really looking forward to making Meadow a cage like that.  i was thinking i’ll do three floors.  that’s what’s so cool too… you can expand it so easily!

That’s great! If you find that he likes to pee on his new soft bedding, and on the 2nd level, you may want to cover both levels with plastic and then a towel. To prevent the linens/towels that are sitting on top of the plastic from sliding around, you can either get velcro, and stick that on the edges of the plastic. (Get the adhesive velcro so that the side the flat side with the glue will stick to plastic and the vecro side will help hold on to the towels.)This should help keep it stable but still allow you to pick up the towels and linens when they need to be washed.

So far he hasn’t peed anywhere but in his litterbox (fingers are crossed).

Sounds like some first class digs to me and the cage is plenty big! He gets outside run time right? So no worries!
