› Forum › THE LOUNGE › Scary Movies anyone?
So we rented the Mist last night (Stephen King movie). It was really really good, very scary, suspenseful and had a surprise ending although I have to say I didn’t like the ending. But it was good. I love scary movies.
Anyone else seen the Mist? What did you think of it? Or what was your most recent scary movie you liked?
I don’t like movies that have stuff that jumps out and then a loud sound effect plays. I guess it’s “Scary” for some people, but it’s really just annoying to me. It startles me, sure, but it seems like lazy film making.
Genuine horror movies like exorcist, shining, and wicker man I can def. appreciate.
lol. i am the biggest fraidy-cat EVER. i still have not seen the excorcist or the shining all the way through. i did see the wicker man and that was one freaky movie ::shivers::. i startle easily watching movies. remember the beginning of ’saving private ryan’? it was a bit of a quiet scene while they were on the boat headed for shore… and then suddenly there was a burst of war with shooting & loudness. yeah… i was in the theater watching that and half of my popcorn (literally) became airborn at that point. which was fine because i didn’t eat a thing for the rest of the movie. lol. i can’t even watch the cheesey old horror flicks like friday the 13th or halloween. i still cover my ears & close my eyes like a 2yr old, sooooo generally i avoid all horror-type flicks. no point in deliberately freaking myself out i figure
i like suspenseful movies. i do not like stuff that jumps out or is really gross/gory. i am a big fan of King’s books, i’ve read at least 2/3rds of them. but anytime i see a King movie it always disappoints me. there’s so much that is missing that i find myself distracted, or i’m trying to explain little details mid-movie to whoever i’m with.
some of the books made into movies i did like:
The Shining & Carrie (classics), and a few made from his short novellas… Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, & Secret Window (Johnny Depp is oh so hot!)
i just saw they’re making Cell and From a Buick 8 into movies. i loved both of those books (they are recent books), but again, i’m hesitant to see the movies.
oooh secret window was good! i was pretty freaked out for that one too but when there’s a good mystery to figure out i’ll hang in there. i know what you mean about being disappointed by some of king’s books being made into movies. ‘it’ was the first king book i read & i loved it sooo much but was very disappointed by the movie. although before i even saw the movie i was resigned to the fact that there was no possible way they could do the book (and my imagination) justice.
one that was a major disappointment for me was Dreamcatcher. the book was awesome… the movie i could hardly watch.
BBMum… have you read the Secret Window story? if not, you have to… it’s so great.
I can’t stand scary movies. I am very jumpy. I can’t even watch Jurassic Park. This is pretty funny because I work at Universal Islands of Adventure in Jurassic park on my breaks from school. I play a scientist in the park and I even hatch baby dinos. When I tell the kiddos it is not scary, I mean it. I’d be the first one out of there.
If something jumps I jump.
I do like suspence though.
OHHH my god that’s the coolest job I’ve ever heard of!! wow!!!
my wife is a big stephen king fan and we both enjoyed the Mist very much and saw it in the theater plus I bought it on dvd. although I enjoyed The Mist on a whole other level being i play a fair number of first-person shooters and that it was the inpsiration for the “Half-Life” series of video games.
Dreamcatcher is acutally one of my wife’s and my favorites movies. she said even having read the book that she was fine with the movie. On the other hand we could have done without seeing secret window, that movie didnt appeai to either of us.
This is one of our “babies” that I sometimes handle when I work there. In the picture you will see our baby triceratops Savanah and her Handler. I sometimes am Savanahs handler.

i hate scary films to! i watch them but only if its daytime lmao! i dont like being jumpy and not in control of what im doing so when something makes me jump i get panicky lol
I just love movies!
I loved The Others!
You want really scary – how about Seven, Jaws or Cape Fear!
My current favorite “zombie” movie is FIDO – if you liked Shawn of the Dead, they you will like Fido.
Feast is a good funny/gore movie.
I can’t believe y’all did not list Cojo as one of the all time classic Stephen King Movies – ha, ha, just kidding. Actually, I rented the series Kingdom Hospital – Loved it!
I’ve pretty much lost my taste for most horror movies since my fiance is the biggest horror movie fanatic ever and has forced me to watch the old, crappy classics like Friday the Thirteenth and Nightmare on Elm Street (yes including all one hundred and 90 of them…) one too many times. Not to mention my house is full of horror movie paraphernalia that I’m way sick of looking at! But I have to put up with it because of all my “bunny home decor”…lol our house is pretty messed up… it’s a mix of goth/horror and cutsy little bunnies…
I’d have to say the only scary movies that affect me at all any more are movies involving ghosts and hauntings. I can’t sleep for days after seeing one so I try not to watch em too often.
I haven’t seen Mist but I did rent a Stephen King movie called Desperation a few months ago because I seen it at the store and I had read the book in high school….it leaves you pretty messed up because it’s so disturbing..
Ok but has anyone ever seen the Night of the Lepus? It’s about giant killer rabbits!
The Shining is actually one of my favorites…and here’s something funny, someone took clips from the Shining, put them to happy music and now it looks like a fun, heartwarming drama. Here’s the link it’s great!
oops, I don’t really know how to make a link, but you can cut and paste. It’s worth it
notjulesverne I saw that ages ago and haven’t been able to find it-COOL!
I am a big fan of scary movies … I have just seen the fourth in the series of SAW. The first and second ones were awesome.
I also loved HOSTEL. That was pretty gross.
I know I am sick LOL.
LOL my boyfriend is crazy about the saw movies, we saw the last two in theatres on halloween night, and he’s all excited (was just telling me last night actually) that they are all set to do seven saw’s at least.
Did you see Hostel 2? I found it less gory and easier to watch then the first one. I love scary movies but I’m also a bit of a baby! LOL
@ littlepuffytail how can you not enjoy this…. 1 2 freddys coming 4 u 3 4 better lock ur door… haha i love nightmare on elm street it rocks!!
Netflix carries Night of the Lepus…I put it next on my list!
Oh wow HOSTEL 2 … no I will have to get that out on dvd …might pop over to the video shop this arvo and see if it is available.
Can’t wait …
Oh my !! I love, love, LOVE Stephen King !
The movies Dolores Claiborne & Storm of the Century are two of my very favorites ! I’ve never read Storm of the Century, though, but I have Dolores Claiborne and I feel they did an excellent job making that movie as close to the book as possible. Kathy Bates is a wonderful actress & she really did that movie justice, I think !
I loved the book Pet Semetery (sp?), but the movie was one of the worse I’ve ever seen, LOL ! What a big waste of time, that one ! It was so fake I couldn’t stand it, LOL !
Ya know, one of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen, and it wasn’t gory or gruesome in the least, was Salem’s Lot ! I just got that on a DVD recently and it still gives me the willies ! James Mason is a really scary & mysterious somebody which made him a perfect choice to be in the movie. Does anyone here remember Salem’s Lot w/David Soul & Bonnie Bedilia?
I know Night of the Living Dead was another scary movie I remember watching when I was younger…….gosh, I can’t believe I’m as old as I am……..I better quit while I’m ahead
my hubby loooove horror movies, which means I see WAAY more than I would like. He especially loves zombie movies, so we get to see all of those.
my personal favorites is not really a horror movie, but considered a zombiedy – like Shaun of the Dead
i also like the more sci fi ones like Event Horizon. i like old school horror too – like Bela & Boris.
i do really like Stephen King too – especially Misery, the mini series Rose Red & Kingdom Hospital
Okay Gravehearted – I have 2 movies for you:
Fido – it is a Zombie comedy like Shaun of the Dead – Simon Pegg is awesome!
Sunshine – very similar feel to Event Horizon.
Enjoy!
Sage – I’ve heard really good things about Sunshine, but haven’t seen it yet. Fido sounds right up my alley! I love Simon Pegg too 😀
I wrote up a whole thing about how I love scary movies, and I then steered away from the page before I submitted it. Duh! Anyway, now I don’t feel like writing it all up again. I really do love scary stuff (not so much blood and gore for the sake of blood and gore, but I can handle it when it’s in movies like “The Shining”). I don’t get as scared when I watch it with someone near me, so I actually like to watch scary movies by myself – WITH my husband in the house, but not in the same room. Usually I wait to watch scary movies or some spooky documentary or ghost show when he goes to sleep. That way I can feel like I am alone without being fully alone. But watching a scary movie by myself in a room creeps me out enough to make it fun. I’m weird I know.
Gravehearted – I loved Shaun of the Dead – incredible comic relief throughout.
Silent Hill freaked me out. Not sure if it would if I wasn’t watching it alone (alone…ish)
silent hill is creepy even the game is creepy! hehe
I think the scariest movie I’ve seen lately was ‘The hills have eyes’, Dave took me to see it on our first date. We were both so pleased that the other one also enjoyed scary movies….Well this was SCARY. I almost had to get up and leave, I thought I would puke!!! I slept in my living room on the couch for over three weeks, with lights on after that movie!! Sooo scary!
oh cape fear that was good I like werewolf movies and supernatural stuff. yes I love scaries. I was up late watchign a scary and by myself at the time when it was over I was a little nervous going to bed.
I saw “The Mist” last weekend…stuuupiiiid.
Silent Hill is awesome though!
YES! I got Night of the Lepus in the mail today! Who can be scared of Giant Killer Bunnies?!?
I just got Night of the Lepus too! I can’t wait to watch it.
Netflix rules!
WHAAA??? I’ve never heard of this!! Is it an old movie?
Night of the Lepus – 1972
Fed up with the bunnies hopping across their land, a group of ranchers (Janet Leigh & DeForest Kelly) attempts to stunt the rabbits’ growth with the aid of a cooked-up hormone. But instead of shrinking the bunny population, it only makes the animals larger — 150 pounds larger, to be exact — with a newfound appetite for human flesh. Are the ranchers any match for the rabid rabbits’ reproductive skills?
Hey Bunnytowne – Have you seen “Brotherhood of the Wolf”?
It is in French with subtitles, but it is lots of fun.
Brotherhood of the Wolf is that the one with the Native Americans and the big white wolf and the new wolf guy? if so I saw it good one too. oh and the jack nicholson was good too. and kind of silly the 2nd time around. I found there is this new book out called The Wolf too looks good but very short probably a luv story that makes it so short lol. I like the long suspenseful ones. oh boy. by the way I love wolves always wanted one never got one. I was petting one at the vet office a huge timberwolf talk about gorgeous. I saw a timberwolf/husky mix at the pet store other day 6b mos old huge and gorgeous larger than a regular dog much much larger huge head ohhh they are lovely.
oh french subtitle ohh I have to get brohood of the wolf hey does anyone remember Dark Shadows? the vampire soap opera used to love that I made a mini coffin and put a pic of barnabus in it lol my friend dug it. I was a kid when I did that. and yes Misery wow yes. yeah he had that dream of her at the end lol. the hills have eyes was that the one with mel gibson and the aliens that water would kill? ooooooh whew. I am going to have to go find brother hood of the wolf I don’ tthink I havae seen it. yeah I read and say Prey wasn’t that great soemtimes you can find these for free on google video the old boris karloff stuff. salems lot yes I remember david whats his name from starskey and hutch lol. Give me the werewolves I love the novels too. anyone like Dean Kontz. Steven King book I find too long on discriptions like the sidewalk color of walls and such lets get on with the story dude. he is good tho. dean koontz is more ot the point for me. I didn’t care for basilisk how about those Riddick movies the first one Pitch Black ohhh jodie foster in the Panic Room. been a while since I been to the movies hard for me to sit that long without ouch coming on the old back but blockbuster is right down the street. ohhh final destination whew. first time was something seeing it seeing it twice not that great. first tiem tho wow
Night of the Lepus was awesome if you like cheezy movies…Everything looked so fake, even so, you shouldn’t watch it if the thought of seeing bunnies get killed and hurt (even though it is very fake, like I mentioned). You can view clips of it on youtube.
watership down is my ultimate worst film, i cry like everytime i see it and i hate hate it, its not even one of those ones like bambi where u cry but its all ok in the end its just like one of those ones u have 2 hide all the ropes in the house before u sit down 2 watch it

I just saw Cloverfield last night EXCELLENT MOVIE!!
cloverfield whats that one about? a real scary?
It’s that one, the ad’s showed young people at a party and then new york (I think that’s where it is ) started blowing up, and you could see a monster…It’s filmed ‘camcorder/blair witch’ style in that it’s supposed to be filmed with a camcorder by one of the people in the movies…It was awesome, really authentic and pretty scary!! I loved it
omg blair witch sucked soo much, it wasnt scary and it was only like an hour long.. lol
Oh I know!! And there was so much hype about it-it stunk!
i know it was like the hype about that movie that was meant to be like texas chainsaw masacre and it just flopped.. (pun intended
