I got up at 8 30 and usually when the buns hear me they get really excited (cuz, you know, they are starving and all that stuff )

Anyway, I went to the bathroom and was about to get in the shower when I heard this huge CRASH! For a moment I figured it must just have been Smile jumping around her cage (an NIC cage with a large plastic ceiling with 2 heavy books on it). Anyway, there were more noises so I came out to see what was going on and Smile had jumped so hard she knocked down the ceiling and the heavy books were in her cage (she’s done this before…)

Anyway, I was like, ‘Good word woman, just wait for me to feed you’…and started picking up the ceiling bit and books, and then she started running in endless circles, with her Snoozy Sleeper (a little black, soft dog bed) following her…

        I was like…Uhhh…

And tried to grab her, but she leaped and jumped and I realized that her Snoozy Sleeper was caught on her leg! Finally I grabbed her and apparently, she had gnawed off part of the dog bed, making it like a noose really…and it had gotten caught around her leg, and the more she had run the tighter the noose had gotten around her leg!

I started unwinding it and she was moderately well behaved, a few well placed kicks… but I got it off and felt her leg for breaks or anything, didn’t feel anything…so I put her down and she hopped around… then acted normal when I fed them.

But YIKES! close call…! Imagine if she’d gotten it tangled around her neck

aww… poor bun.  gotta hate those clinger incidents when the furbaby thinks they’re being chased making it worse & worse.  glad she’s okay.

                oh no!

that’s the kind of thing that will make it hard to take a vacation… EVER!  i’d be too worried not checking on her twenty times a day.

we’re tentatively planning our trip to Mexico for next year and Mike’s saying, we’ll have someone stop in to feed her once a day.

                i’m like… uh no.

Beka – No kidding! I’m going to be a wreck leaving my boy. What if they never check his water bottle or give him his pellets at 5 am or give him enough greens that have been carefully washed and change his towels and this and that! And I want to travel…

OMG, how scarey! I’m glad you were there to save her!

I had something like that happen just after I got my first bun, the big, bad princess Pringles. She had so much rabbitude she’d huff, honk and bark if you even thought about picking her up or petting her. She was out one day and the cat must have knocked down a long sticky fly paper strip and the end of it got stuck on Pringles ample butt.

The only thing I knew for a few seconds was this horrible screaming and Pringles streaking through the house with the sticky monster flying out behind. On the second lap I threw a towel over her and turned her over on the bed and pulled the bun-eating sticky monster off, it was hanging on by a couple of hare’s hairs…lol

She was so grateful for me saving her that I was allowed to cuddle and snuggle her for at least a half hour before the old Pringles returned and she thumped at me for the rest of the day. But I have to say she’s been much nicer to me since her near-death-by-flypaper episode.

OMG, I would’ve been a wreck! Your poor bun! And poor you! *sends hugs* Thank goodness you’re BOTH okay now! ^^
I never leave anything in my bun’s cage when he’s unsupervised that I could even remotely worry might get caught on him. Neck, legs, mouth…whatever. I just can’t imagine how I’d feel if something happened to him while I was sleeping or away from him in any way.

Mimzy and Pip have a little Cuddl-eCup that they use to snuggle in, but it has a little elastic and ring to attach it to the cage bars. Still, I don’t feel comfortable leaving in there for them to sleep in…they can just tear it too easily, imo.

Sounds like the ceiling is a bit of a hassle. Don’t NIC cubes have wire ceilings? I’d be worried that the books would squish my bun! Although I DO have to keep a bunch of my stuffies on top of Mimz’ pen because the cat likes to get on top of the cage and that scares Mimz. baaaad Griffy! 0.o

That’s something I have to work out too…my cats have lost their fear of the buns when they are out in the kitchen exercising, and we’ve caught them ‘poking’ the buns…well…BUNS…when they get close enough to the bars. I don’t know who is harder to keep an eye on, the rabbits or the cats! >_<

kralspace poor pringles! I had a similar situation happen with Truffles when he managed to get off some masking tape I forgot to remove from a cardboard box that was blocking my desk wires from him until I got those wire protector tubes. it got stuck under his chin and he just kept scratching and scratching and it wouldn’t come off! I had to chase him down and pull it (and a bunch of bunny hairs) off! so scarey!

                              I use those tape roller pet hair pickups in Mimzy’s cage to make sure I’ve gotten all the loose hair out of it when I clean, since my eyesight is less than stellar. He HATES it. As soon as that strip of tape comes around he’s trying to bite it. I can only imagine what would happen if it were to stick to him while I was doing that…and rip out a whole tuft of fur?? Eep! 0.o;
