I just heard about this great program!

If you’re a resident of San Mateo County (CA), you can get your rabbit spay/neutered with the County’s voucher either for free or a small co-pay, depending on the participating clinic’s policy.  You can get up to 10 spay/neuter vouchers a year, good for rabbits (among other pets!).

To receive a voucher please call 650-573-3940 and leave the following information:

        • Full name
        • Mailing address, please include city and zip code
        • Telephone number
        • Driver’s License number
        • How many vouchers you require
        • What type of animal do you need a voucher for : dog, cat, feral cat, rabbit, guinea pig, etc.

Here’s their website for more information: http://www.co.sanmateo.ca.us/portal…37230aRCRD

This seems such a proactive program!!
For those interested in utilising these vouchers, 2 of the participating clinics are also listed in HRS vet listings.
          Dr. Maria dePunzio
          VCA Bayshore Animal Hospital
          Dr. Griffin
          Spruce Pet Hospital

I wonder if shelters could apply also?  Probably not….

That is a fantastic program and it’s nice that rabbits are included! Usually it’s just cats and dogs.

              WOW !! THanks for sharing

Can anyone tell by the website who’s footing the cost? Is the city paying or are these vets saints?

It says $1 from every animal licence paid in the county goes into a trust fund for the program. So depending on how long they’ve been building this fund, perhaps this is covering majority of the cost?

It’s worth people doing an online search for these sorts of low cost spay/neuter programs. Even if they don’t cover rabbits, if your a multi pet house hold, using a voucher for other pets should free up some finances for taking care the other pets not covered.

^^^ Absolutely! Especially in this economy, people still want to be able to care for their pets to the best of their ability, so if you can save some money with programs like this, that frees up other funds.
