Ferdinand went to bunny heaven tonight. I had to make a difficult decision to euthanize him, but his health and ultimately quality of life wasn’t improving. Head tilt absolutely can be cured (after a ton of research and lots of time with my lovely vet Dr Scheenstra I know a lot about it!), but sadly Ferdinand had prior health complications and e.cuniculi that made his future less than pleasant. He will be missed. My friends are rallying and sending donations to http://www.SaveABunny.org, where I adopted him from, so hopefully other bunnies have a better Christmas in his memory.
ps. He was already separated from Belle (they fell out repeatedly!), so she’s fine ![]()
I’m soo sorry for your loss. What a cutie is Ferdinand. I’m sure you made the right decision as the poor thing was suffering so much. He was very lucky to have you.
((((((((hugs)))))))))))
Oh dear :*( RIP Ferdinand…he was gorgeous!
Very very sorry to hear that. It’s really tough to lose a member of the family. I wish you every happiness for the new year. You did the right thing and I’m sure he had the best possible life with you. Lots of love xxx
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss – It is so kind of you to think of other bunnies at SaveaBunny at this time. I’m sure right now Ferdinand is having quite a time binkying and dancing around in heaven ![]()
i’m so sorry you lost your ferdinand
he was one lucky bun to have had you looking out for him, that is for certain. the donations to saveabunny are lovely way to remember him. glad you have belle to snuggle (((hugs)))
I’m heartbroken to hear about this. He will be missed the fuzzy fella has now crossed the rainbow bridge. I am glad that Belle is doing O.K. be sure to give her some extra love from us.
I am so sorry to hear about Ferdinand. It is the hardest decision one ever has to make. I had to do the same with my beloved Fu. While no bun can ever take their place, they have left our hearts permanently open to other bunnies in need. And there will be a time when the memories bring laughter and not tears.
My thoughts are with you. I know how difficult it is to lose a beloved bunny. I also donated to a rabbit rescue in the names of my deceased bunnies, it really helps heal the heart to help other bunnies in need. Take comfort in the fact that he lived the best life a bunny can live: to be loved and cherished by a human.
((((((((((((((((((Ferdinand))))))))))))))))))
i’m sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels. I lost two buns very close together. I will be thinking about you and Ferdinand. God bless you.
From one Mill Valley bun mom to another have a good holiday and know you did the right thing. I adopted Edson from Save A Bunny as well so I will send another donation so that another bun can be saved!
Edson is adorable! Thanks for all the thoughts and messages. I cleaned out Ferd’s padded condo this morning and it was v. sad. I’m getting some of the many hilarious photos of his antics printed so I can remember the happy memories.
God, I’m so sorry, but you made the right decision, it must have been hard, (the selfless ones always are) 🙂 Plenty of cuddles for Belle.x
Oh sweetie – I am so sorry. You did the right thing though and Ferdinand is at the Rainbow Bridge where he will be whole again. I am lighting a candle for sweet Ferdinand. You are a good bunny mom to make that selfless decision.
((((((Hugs))))))
We all feel your pain and mourn his loss right along with you, but it is heartwarming to know that you saved his life either way you look at it. At least he was able to spend wonderful time with you before his passing. Donations to save a bunny are a wonderful way to remember him!
I am so sad to hear about your loss. It is such a hard decision to make, but it sounds like it was the right one. Cleaning out the pen is always one of the hardest parts of the grieving process. Sending you and Belle lots of healing wishes.
Binky Free, Ferdinand. Cleaning out the pen must be so hard. You are in our thoughts.
One thing I forgot to say in my email to you is though this has been a hard time, the blessing is that he was adopted by you in the first place where he could live out his days in a loving caring home.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss! I was in Chgo for the holiday and just checked the site today. I was hoping to read some happy news about Ferdinand. Let me thank you for your posts re: Ferdinand and his health/progress/diagnosis etc. I’m sure that this information will help somebunny out there. All the best to you and your family during your time of need.
