Remember my post about building my buns a new house? Well, my husband is taking FOREVER in getting the dumb thing done. It has been sitting out in the garage for the last month. Then it has been raining so much lately. One night last week, it rained over 2 inches and the roof in the garage sprang a leak. Water leaked onto several parts that were laid out where my husband had been working on them and they were ruined. I really want the rabbits out of their old cage. It’s too small for the two of them, even though they are only in it at night. I was looking forward to having them having a full second level to stretch out on and room for a hide box that will hold them both comfortably. Too bad I’m not handy with the power tools. I know how to use a power drill, sorta.

          Thats a bummer!
Petco is having a half-off sale on xpens, maybe that would help until the new cage can get made?

Nah, they have their entire room during the day. I figured an exercise pen would be a waste of money.

So has it been delayed because of the water or has your husband fallen into a procrastination pit.  (hard to get them out of there once they have reached the bottom ).  You can always act like you are going to try and work with his power tools by yourself (just make sure he is nearby to hear you) .  I bet he’d be out there lickety split to make sure you don’t break them.     Steve and I are always trading chores and making deals to compromise and get things done.  Chores don’t feel so..so…chorey…if you feel like you are getting something out of it.   I hate doing dishes, he hates to vacuum, so the dishes get done if I vaccuum, and the floors are clean (which are good for his allergies) if he does the dishes.   We have a zillion of thosetype of  trade offs per day.

How many hours/days do you think it should actually take?  Could he build it in a weekend?

If there Is there something he dislikes to do, but you wouldn’t mind doing for a few days as a trade off?   Yes, yes, the trade off should be…he has made you happy and he loves you, and that’s all that should be needed.   But sometimes a little extra incentive via a chore exchange can help motivate.

And if that doesn’t work, then actually try and learn how to do it yourself. Check out some great how to sites and see if the instructions will help.

Since  power tools are involved, are you using anything sharp?  Then in that case you may want to just ask your husband to show you it’s done (which will most likely make him get involved at least to get the more dangerous aspects done for you.

BB, sorry I didn’t see your response. I guess the problem isn’t so much the water, but my husband procrastinating. He has switched his focus to helping his parents fix up one of their rentals so they can sell it. So when he’s home, he’s not wanting to work on the rabbit hutch. I’m worried because he is taking a summer class and that will start in July. So then he’ll be doing that and not working on the rabbit hutch. I honestly don’t know how many hours are left. I know he needs to make a new ramp. He still needs to make the legs, the front doors, and figure out how to attach the lid so it can be propped open for additional ventilation. Then it has the be finished somehow. I think some people on here said that shellac was okay to use, so we have been looking into that.
