Ive had tallulah; a 6month old lionhead cross for a few months and decided to get her a companion. I rescued a 2year old bunny called harvey 3days ago and so far the bonding has been going well. On day 1 Tallulah was humping harvey but on day 2 he was settled in and started to hump Tallulah. It took a while but i think she has accepted Harvey will be boss.
I let them in there play area today to bond and everything went superb… no humping, circling, chasing or anything nasty at all. there wasnt any cuddling but tallulah is always like that at playtime – energy bunny lol!!

So heres where the problem is….. i brought both bunnies in to the house tonight to see if they would cuddle and they did (soo cute) When Harvey approaches Tallulah shes started making this sad noise as if shes scared of harvey. her face doesnt look scared and shes more than happy for him to cuddle her. She will walk up to him and groom him or cuddle in but when hes approaching her the noise sounds like shes scared. Kinda like a guinea pig squeek!! its not a screech but like wimpering!!!
I was thinking Harvey might have hurt her yesterday when mounting or else she just really doesnt want to be mounted!!!

please help… i feel so sad for my girl!!!

sorry its so long lol!!!! also not long if it shud be in here or in bnding but since the actual question is to do with the noises thought id put it in here!!!

i added a video of them on there third date today!

Do they share the same cage already?   Could it be they fought and the crying bunny is scared?  Perhaps she is hurt from running or something .  Do you notice any favoring of her feet?  Does she move about ok?

Check her for bites and such.  Could be he bit her and bruised her skin?   Sometimes things like that are hard to find in all that fur.   Does she act scared of him?

The sound you are describing is it like a scream sort of?   A scream means scared of hurt bunny.   A wimper hmmm.    I would think if she is wimpering and acting afraid I would work more on their bonding.  Not house them together yet.

They look fine in the video.  However they aren’t snuggling type of togetherness.  But they aren’t chasing or fighting either.  That is a good sign

Can you get a video of her wimpering so we can see or maybe I didn’t have my volume up enuf.  Let me go see agian.

I have to retype the whoel thing

OK the video she seemed fine I didn’t hear her wimper and she didn’t seem scared.   Cute she is pulling on your pants  lol.

Could it be she is making happy sounds?  Some bunnies are very vocal and honk or something when they are happy.  They aren’t chasing each other and seem fine exploring.

Just a thought.   Hope this helps     This post is ok in behavior by the way

Tallulah is young. Young buns often make this noise, more often than adult buns, as a submission/’please don’t hurt me’ sound, especially in new territory or just in an unfamiliar situation. It doesn’t mean she has been hurt already just that she isn’t feeling safe. It can be part of bonding. Now be careful what you do here, Tallulah might decide to bite out of fear or/and hormones. Don’t leave these guys unsupervised til a month after she has been spayed.

This reminds me.     When I had Laith he was a very submissive little fellow.  I was going to let him play with this big big girl bunny.  She humped him and he kind of squeaked screamed in a little fast voice.   I ran over there and grabbed up Laith and never put them together again.   The girl bunny was a foster.

So Petzy may be right it is a young bunny kind of thing  for Laith was young well under 1 year  and older I think than 5 months.   Laith  never squeaked with Cotton though.   Even though Cotton started chasing him and even chased him in his cage  so I kept them seperated too.

Well I hope it will work out perhaps as the young one gets older it will feel more confident.

Is she spayed? It could be hormonal noises.

                      thanks for all your feedback!!
I was a bit apprehensive on letting them out to play today because of the sad wee noises but everything went brilliant! When tallulah is out in the run playing she never lies down… always exploring, digging and chewing!!! Thats why i had never heard this noise. its very strange… i honestly dont think shes scared but i think shes just ketting him know hes boss and shes not wanting to be incharge, fight etc.
they were together in the house today and it was just the cutest thing ever….. grooming, cuddling and only a little bit of squeeking!!!

It was a good day (((((smile)))))
