         Hello

I have the bun on tile floor right now, with a couple towels, plus she has a grass mat in her cage. Is the tile ok? I have one of those really short-carpeted rugs, I forget what they are called but they are like, 20 bucks or less for an 8X10? Should I put that over the tile? Should I wait until she’s litter trained? Is the tile too hard for her?

        Thanks!

I wouldn’t use it till after shes litter trained because you might get tired of cleaning it :p but if you don’t care go right ahead. as long as you have some towels and other stuff she will be fine.

Ok, something to think about and not to scare you! My bunny, Velvateen broke his leg crossing over tile. He got spooked and slipped on the tile and hit the refrigerator. Totally freak accident! Granted, he wasn’t in his cage, he was exploring his new home. And he wouldn’t have been hurt had he not hit something hard. The carpet does take time to clean when they aren’t potty trained, but it’s something to consider. :\

Yikes thats terrible! She’s in an xpen on tile, so I don’t think she’d hurt herself… I’ll just use lots of towels for a bit.

right now, i have kitchen rag rugs lining the rabbits’ cages. i have enough so that i can put down a fresh set while i wash the dirty set. i’m planning on making an actual floor for rue’s cage, and will be putting down tile so that it’s easier to clean any accidents, but i plan on still using a few rugs at a time so that they have soft places to lay, and because nut puppet likes to bunch them up and push them around.

i wouldn’t use towels, though. the terry loops can be dangerous. they can easily get wrapped around a toe or tooth. i knew many people who had near misses with their rats (not rabbits, but same concept). one friend had to have her rat’s tail amputated because he had gotten a loop from a towel wrapped around it, and she didn’t find it in time.

I use a large carpet like you are describing and then for my more incontinent rabbits (which is all right now since they are older) I use area rugs over those that I wash weekly and air dry. I really could just use the area rugs that I have but they don’t seem to cling to the linoleum and slide around which they don’t on the area rugs.

Changed towels to a fleece blanket yesterday (I cut it up into square so I could wash and rotate )

as my three year old would say- awesomesauce! fleece is great, i use it in my rat cage. it’s cheap, doesn’t fray when they chew it, and doesn’t need hemming when you cut it to fit (’cause it doesn’t fray!).

I would wait until he’s litter trained and you’re sure he doesn’t eat carpet. Some bunnies are obsessed with carpet, others leave it alone – you wouldn’t want to put it in there and have him tear it up and eat it while you’re gone.

My two are on a large area rug and they’re fine. Previously I had down a vinyl table cloth thing to protect my floors in case they peed. Tile would be ok too as long as she has enough stuff down to give her traction.
