› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Rufus big day tomorrow
Ok so third op tomorrow and this is the one to neuter him so hopefully he will stop being so humpy, he is getting really agressive with me, he is circling me and if I am sitting down he is all over my leg, if I push him away then he starts biting.
So tomorrow is the day, he is still underweight but we are getting there, I just wish he would eat hay which he really really needs to do but never seems to! I am worried I always am before my animals go in for surgery but more so with rufus as he has all his other issues.
Adding to this Miss kitty my Cat is going in to get spayed on Tuesday and I found out that one of my Female GP is up the duff! So very stressful at my house at the moment.
Vibes for Rufus!!! What a strong little guy!
Just imagine how relieved you will be on Wednesday!

All the best surgery and healing vibes for Rufus and Kitty-kins! ((((((((((((((((((((((((vibes)))))))))))))))))
How’d he get on AV?
He was fine! He lived up to his old name of Sir humps alot and was humping all the vet nurses before surgery. His teeth are good and when I picked him up he was wide awake and running around. Now home he is being normal demanding to be let out and showing no ill effects of the op at all! The vet did say he had one of the largest sets that she has ever removed so no wonder he was a humping machine!

LOL!!
I’m sending healing vibes!
Keep us updated.
BinkyBunny send me healing vibes instead! Really you would think that nothing happened, in fact if his sack area was not all swollen and warm (the norm according to the vet) then I would be calling them and asking if they in fact did give him the big snip! I mean he acted as if he had been to the day spa and not the vet! My cat did not so well but she was feeling better today which was nice. Bad news found out my dog needs dental surgery so there blows another $500 odd dollars, i so can’t win with animals!
Ok Rufus was done on Monday it is now Wednesday night and I have to take him for his check up tomorrow night at 7.30pm however I noticed tonight his ball sacks are HUGE and very warm, i noticed them as he was on my lap and I could feel the heat coming off them. It really looks like he still has them, his sex drive is still in over drive (not expecting that to go anytime soon). I have spent about an hour looking for pictures and googling like mad, is this normal? I know I have a vet visit tomorrow but just worrying
Hi AV, here’s an old thread+picture that addresses this a bit. Hopefully you can read thru and find some tips. https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tab…fault.aspx
Only other thing I can suggest is ring vet in morning and ask what you can do and/or try get an earlier appt.
Edit: Also this from HRS post care page:
“Inspect the incision morning and evening. After a neuter, the scrotum may swell with fluids. Warm compresses will help, but it is nothing to be overly concerned about. With any sign of infection, take the rabbit to the veterinarian immediately.”
Thanks, looked at all the links and think that the area has just swelled with fluids, rang the vet and she also thinks this so going to leave app for tonight and not move it forward
How’d he make out at the vets today?
Not so great. In fact she is a little worried but did not give him any more meds as she feels that the penicillian that he is already on will fight off any infections. He has to go back again in a weeks time for another check
His ball sacks are really hot and large so I gave him a cool compress (not cold but below room temp) and he was rubbing them all over it last night groaning away. Will have to keep an eye on him and go from there.
Oh poor Rufus! (((((((((((((((healing vibes for all pets AND AV)))))))))))))))))))))) When I had my 12 year old dog neutered he also developed an inflamed scrotal sac and had to be put on antibiotics. (amoxicillin) Even so, he had complications later in life that I wonder wasn’t due to neutering him so late. I think it is just harder on the older animals. And you don’t want the infection going inward to his bowels, which is what I believe eventually happened to my dog.
Not to scare you, just, be vigilant to any changes in eliminations.
He’s taking penicillin? You mean the shots, yes? How many of those do you have left? I would think an oral antibiotic would do better, personally, but with your other vet concerns for your cat and dog, I can understand why it might be hard to think of adding another medicine.
Please do keep us updated. I hope he is better soon! ((((((hugs))))))
Thanks Mimz, he is on long acting penecillin for the rest of his life, one shot a week due to his abcess in his jaw so this should kill off any infection right away. other the that he seems to be getting better. They are not as red or as inflamed as they where last thursday so I think it might just be the case of slowley slowley with him.
No pain meds for those swollen bits? Oye! Poor Rufus!!! I know that others have had post swelling issues too, but if I can remember right, if they didn’t go down the vet did give some anti-inflammatory meds or ??? Gosh I wish I could remember. I hope some members that have had this happen to their bunny will post, but being a U.S. holiday weekend, it could be slow on the board too.
Just glad to hear that the swelling is going down. He’s eating and pooing okay?
We did think of giving him some pain meds but we try and ration them out becuase of the Penicillian, not sure why. However they are going down, slowely but surely. Today I could handle them without him caring which is a good response to how painful they are and they where not as hot and he was not as instrested in the cold compress.
