even though rue has full run of ariana’s play room (and eventually, the house) during the day, and is only closed in her “cage” at night, i wanted her to have more room.  especially since we are already talking about getting another bun.   so last night at target, i picked up one of those cube shelves.  i was originally planning to just get rid of rue’s current cage (actually a large dog kennel), but i ended up building off of it, instead.   the kennel door can be attached to the first square when i need to confine rue, but opens wide so rue can come and go, and i can walk in to clean or just sit with rue.  the pen is two squares high, four squares long (counting the kennel door), and two squares wide.  i used three squares to make a shelf at the end.  there is a roof over the shelf, to keep her from hopping out.  i still need to cover the floor of the shelf, and make some sort of ramp so she can reach it.  other than that, it’s great!

you can see rue spread out in the back corner, by ariana’s treasure chest.  she’s claimed that as her “spot”.  i’m going to pick up a small dog bed to put there for her

inside the kennel- litter box, hay rack, house, food, waterbottle, and toys

the pen- rue’s favorite spot, her willow tunnel, the basket of sticks that she loves to throw around, and her favorite toy- the binder clip

and one last one of rue and her dust bunny impression.  the girl’s all fur!  i can litterally close one hand completely around her body, without squishing her, but the fur makes her look so big!

          Excellent!
I love a habitat that works as an extension.

Binder clip toy? That’s a thought.

lol it was originally suppose to keep the child from opening rue’s cage when i didn’t want her to, but it didn’t work. then rue started picking it up and flinging it around and carrying it from place to place, so…. yeah…

You’re going to need to do something about the wide spaced opening on some of those grids. The grids from target have two different spacings of the wires on their grids. The ones meant to be shelves, have a good narrow spacing around 1 1/2″, but the grids that are meant to be the sides of the shelving have wide spaces around 4″.

The 4″ openings in the side grids are a danger. Bunnies can get their heads stuck in the opening and get hurt.

I second what Eepster said. A ramp with plywood (and a towel covering the wood) over the open grids.

                It looks amazing

Where did you get that huge willow circle?

Oo I like your set up, especially the hay rack! I think the Kennel is better than an xpen, because of the flooring. Where did you get those rugs?! I’ve been looking around for some machine washable ones like those.
