        Hello, all

My rabbit is a house dwarf lop rabbit, she goes and does her business in her large tray, i use newspaper and hay as bedding, i have done this for quite some time resulting in no problems since i change it fairly regularly every day.. Anyway as I was grooming my rabbit I noticed that if I ran my hand around her behind the fur there was rough and had some minimal tangling, now she wont let me touch there for long so I could not get a good look, I was wondering if there was a way i could make her fur soft around her anus/vagina? I know i cant possibly use a comb down there. I was thinking a flannel maybe to make it wet? But I am unsure if wetting that hair would make it worse or better.

Minimal tangled fur is as a rule not a problem. Bigger mats can be cut some distance from the skin and then pulled apart with your fingers. This is obviously easier to do if someone else helps you hold your rabbit. More serious mats are best tackled with a sanitary shave by a vet or vet tech.

Wetting the fur or applying oil etc will most likely make the fur tangle even more. After all, that’s pretty much what you do when you felt wool 🙂

OKay, thank you, i was worried about it but as it is minimal i suppose i should not worry, no other parts of her are matted or tangled in anyway, just a small amount around her behind.

It is a common area for some matting, but as long as its not dirty or wet, I dont think you need to worry.

It’s really great that you’re so observant!

Yeah, I wouldn’t be overly worried. A little bit of matting/tangling is to be expected in that area.
