Hey everyone I was wondering if anybody had any information on if those small meadow hay bales were good for adult bunnies and if they have alfalfa in them? I’ve tried a few different types of hay but my bunny would rather eat the hay bales. If they are safe would it be okay to feed it to her as a source of her daily hay? I couldn’t find any information on the ingredients online… Thanks in advanced.

I’m not familiar with these hay bales, but I assume the package would list alfalfa if that was included.

I found an article about Rosewood meadow hay bales on a tortoise forum. These are the ingredients that they listed. There is no alfalfa listed.

          Orchard grass
          Dandelion
          Red clover
          Plantain
          Tall oat grass
          Downy Alpine oat grass
          Smooth stalk meadow grass
          Velvet grass
          Soft broom grass
          Sorrel
          Wild chervil
          Tufted vetch

I know that clover should be given sparingly to rabbits. I’m not familiar with some of these ingredients, such as velvet grass or tufted vetch. I checked the 2 veggie lists here and neither sorrel nor chervil are on them, so I don’t know if those are safe for rabbits either.

as tobyluv said, i’m not sure on a few of the ingredients! but that being said i do give little chunks of these compressed hay bales to my rabbits as treats once in a while, they enjoy them. In my opinion, I wouldn’t give as her daily hay, for that I would try and find some good timothy hay or orchard grass. my rabbits have had no problems eating the small meadow hale bales, but I do not give them big amounts and only give it to them as a treat along with the daily timothy hay they get from small pet select. I hope this helps you! and maybe some other BB members will have a better understanding of some of the ingredients. From what I’ve heard rosewood is a pretty popular brand, but i’ve seen better thoughts on their toys and not so much on their salad mixes or other things as they do contain things like corn which rabbits should not be eating. again this is just what I do with my rabbits so what you do is completely you’re decision. also not all rabbits react to things the same way as you probably know already!!

Jake and Julie have had these at treats They LOVE them but they make a huge mess. Usually, I let them go at it for a few minutes then pick it up and put it in a Ziploc bag for another use.
