Alright so I have a lip head rabbit (Rosalie) as well as two other dwarf Jersey Woolys. I have tried to get Rosalie to use a water bottle, but she chews aggressively on the end of it. I came home one day and saw her chewing on it and she finally took a firm hold of it in her mouth and yanked! She ripped the nozzle right off the rest of the bottle. I gave her a bowl and she does okay (other than trying to drink the water as I’m pouring it.)

Any thoughts on why she would rip the nozzle off her water bottle? The bowl is just such a hassle.

she doesn’t like the bottle. I only use a bowl for my bun, I just don’t like bottles. Just keep using what makes her happy, (bowl)

Agree with JLH. I only use bottles when they’re going through a heavy molt because the fur doesn’t pool in it and cause them to ingest to much. Other than that my house is bowl city.

I would also recommend against a bottle. You could interpret the chewing as frustration that the bottle isn’t giving your rabbit the water she needs at the rate she needs it. There are studies showing that rabbits drink less water from a bottle than bowl because it’s more effortful/work — the bottle destruction could be a literal manifestation of that frustration! If she is disagreeing with the bottle, use a bowl instead. It’s also more clean (under the assumption you give it a light clean daily) because it’s easier to clean.

I recommend ceramic bowls! Bunnies can drink as much as a small dog! When they have a water bottle they won’t dribk as much becuase it is so much work! Since I have switched my bun to a water bowl I’ve noticed how much healthier she is! Plus, if you have a spring loaded water bottle their tongues can get stuck on it
