It’s been 7 days since my bunnies spay and shes been acting really good and hasn’t been messing with her stomach at all.

well yesterday i moved her back into her original cage and shes been digging at the sides and stuff which is pretty normal but when I was going to let her out a few minutes ago i checked her stomach and saw a little bit of blood, i thought maybe it was old at first but then i took a photo so i could look at it better and it looks as if her stitches had been ripped maybe??

i’m not sure if it happened when she was playing or she ripped them herself but i’m worried, shes still acting normal and it isn’t actively bleeding, but i’m not sure if it’s okay or not? i can’t whisk her away to the vet as the cars are gone rn due to people working

I’m not an expert but I assume if this is seven days post-op, I don’t think there should be any new bleeding like this. She may have torn it from moving around or dug at it herself. I would take her to see a vet as soon as possible to make sure they wound is closing properly. If not she could be at risk for a serious infection.

Here is a link to some information about post-spay aftercare. https://rabbit.org/post-surgical-aftercare/

Thank you for replying :> I just called the vet and asked them about it/explained it and they said as long as she isn’t actively bleeding it should be okay, it hasnt been bleeding any today except for when i checked it in the morning, so i think she might have ripped them right before i checked her.

i’ve still been giving her the pain medicine just in case, I’ll keep an eye on her and if anything else happens I’ll make a  vet appoint

This happened to my rainbow bridge bunny when she was spayed. Her incision was fine but the bottom of it puckered, turned red, and a white, ear-cheese texture discharge appeared. My vet suggested cleaning it out with a q-tip and anti-bacterial soap twice a day. It healed nicely and was in no way related to her passing. The significant redness is worrisome though. I’d clean it once and see what happens.

You can ask the vet for silver sulfadizene cream, that stuff heals wounds in days
