On Monday at about 4:15, my one and only guinea pig, Rocky, passed away. I am so shocked and heart broken. Today would have been our 4th anniversary since he had joined my family. He didn’t show any signs of being ill until it was too late. He has been my buddy since my first guinea pig died. I will miss the way he would greet me when I walked into the room and the way he would beg for treats. He was the loudest squeaker and was hardly ever quiet. I taught him to turn in a circle on command and eventually he just did it every time I brought veggies. Surprisingly, I will miss how he would chew on the bars of the cage in the morning to make sure I got out of bed to feed him. My room feels so empty without him. It still feels like a dream. I keep thinking that he will be there when I come home from school. I miss him soooo much!  I don’t plan on replacing him with another guinea pig but it is for sure that I will be adopting a rabbit sometime after the holidays. I will try to upload pics. So far they aren’t uploading.

My condolences on your loss of Rocky, he sounds like he was very special! But you had almost 4 long years of enjoyment with him and that’s a lot. Healing vibes to you.

I know how hard it is to lose a guinea pig. I had three in our family growing up, and I loved them all dearly.
                We still reminisce about them.
I’m sure Rocky loved you to bits and you gave him a great life.

Thank you for your kind comments. They mean a lot to me. This is really the only place (besides guineapigcages.com) where I can share how I feel about losing my guinea pig and other people understand. I told my friends at school that he died and they are like, “Oh, I’m sorry. It’s just a guinea pig.” They don’t understand that a guinea pig or any small animal can really become a part of the family. Thanks again.

I’m sorry about Rocky, I lost my Brownie last month after 5 years and it’s amazing how quiet the house is now. I know what you mean about having a very vocal piggy, even the bar chewing which would make me grind my own teeth. I’m sure he appreciated his very loving home and great life he had.

                      Wheep and Popcorn on, Rocky!

Kathy, I hope I wrote condolences to you about Brownie, but if I didn’t, please accept hugs now.
I think piggies are the very best pets for younger kids and teens. You can actually get closer because they often are only yours to care for and play with, so it’s more personal than with a family pet that is cared for by more people.
And I do a great piggie wheep imitation.
