We adopted 2-year-old Rex (a Rex/Dwarf mix) in November and he had a clear bill of health. Recently, I noticed he is getting rings around his eyes. It’s new, shorter hair by his eyes. The white look is actually gray roots/black tips of the longer hair. No hair is missing from what I can tell.

He’s acting just fine, eating great and having his running races/binkies, etc. Back in November, we did take him to the vet after it looked like he had been crying one night. I held a warm wet rag to his face then and it fixed it. The vet put him on an antibiotic just in case, but said he was likely allergic to our new carpet or something and got some in a cut in his eyes.

I think it’s just the effect (very cool special effect) of the lighter base colour of his coat. He looks like he might have some silver tipped fur also?
The short hair around the eye will prob grow and show that grey/blue base evetually. It looks particularly striking because of the lighter skin colour of his eyelids, it almost looks like 2 white circles.

I have a black rabbit and when I pluck her fur, her undercoat is white.
