I have 3 house rabbits – Stella (5, female), George (4, male) and Moss (3 1/2, male). Both Stella & George are heavily bonded with Moss but they’ve never really liked each other, they were in separate cages for most or all of the time for about 9 months after we brought George home from the rescue place.
We tolerated their slight scuffles up until now, we went away for the weekend and had friends popping in to feed them twice a day. Their last visit was 11am on Sunday, and when we returned at 7pm on Sunday it was literally a war zone.
It look as though half of Stella’s fur had been torn out and was all over the floor. After inspection, we found George with a slightly bloody nose and Stella with a bite mark on her butt, a couple of scratches and a very bloody nose. Moss was totally fine. They’ve been separated ever since (Stella in the cage, George free range and Moss gets half a day with each) but we now have to start the bonding process again.
Does anyone have any tips? I feel like we’ve tried everything but it’s getting really stressful, we can’t bear the thought of giving either bun up as they’re both rescues in the first place!
We were going to pop all three in the cat box over night with food and water, and keep them next to the bed. The other issue is that George doesn’t really react to loud noises or the squirt bottle so it’s hard to get him to stop winding her up!
Please help!
