I have 2 buns… Coconut (2yr old neutered) and Buttercup (6mos old Spayed). I have had Coconut for 9mos and he was fully litter trained. He has a hutch with a 4×4 play yard attached. I’ve had Buttercup for 2 mos & she has a cage with a 3×4 play yard attached. I have kept them separate because she was recently spayed. They are besties and have free range of the first floor of my house during the day. When Buttercup came into our home Coconut started marking his play area which made sense to me that he was simply marking his territory. Buttercup was spayed a month ago and she is now litter trained. I was hoping Coconut’s marking would stop but it hasn’t.  My plan was to have them in a shared space but is there a way to retrain Coconut so the marking stops. Thanks in advance

Are they bonded? If not, then they are marking due to territorial issues, and they really shouldn’t be having play time together, unless it is a bonding session?

If they are getting along really well when in the free-run area, bonding them should be pretty straight forward. Once they are bonded and living together the marking should stop.

They get along perfectly and thats why I don’t understand why he’s still marking. Do you think I should have them live together?

Sorry I’m still confused. Did you go through the bonding process with them? And are they currently living in separate enclosures?

Sorry for the confusion. They are only separated in different enclosures at night or when I’m not home, but during the day when I’m home they have free range of the first floor. They are bonded and they get along really well. I only kept them separated because she was recently spayed and now that she’s healed, I held off on putting them together in one space because of his marking. Hope that makes sense
