I have a Dutch girl who is about two years old. Last year, when she was one, i bred her (her first litter). A month later, I️ found six dead and partially eaten babies and one live and healthy baby in the nest box. She was an excellent mother to the one surviving baby, so we assumed she had had difficulty delivering the others. Since then, we have bred her 8 times, and have not gotten a litter. This is very unusual, especially since she is so young. She even has made nests around day 29 most of the times she has been due. She has a very large belly that is hard, which she has had for as long as I️ can remember (maybe since the last litter?). I’ve never been able to palpate a rabbit, even with large litters, so I️ can’t check that way. it was just yesterday that I️ thought that maybe she has a retained baby. She is a favorite of ours, so we want to make sure she’s ok. Any suggestions of what to do from here? Thank you

The subject of intentional breeding is not allowed on the forums, and not many people here have experience with breeding. I suggest going over to Rabbits Online where they have a specific forum on breeding.

If she’s had a very large, hard belly for a while now you really should take her to a vet. What are we supposed to do over the Internet?

Please turn to the forum Rabbits Online, their Rabbitry and Show Room -section. There are people there that have experience with mothers and baby buns. Intentional breeding is a prohibited subject here on the BB forums and we simply don’t have the expertise you are in need of right now.

Here’s a link to Rabbits Online, the relevant section: http://www.rabbitsonline.net/forums/the-rabbitry-and-show-room.20/

It’s an active forum, so I think you’ll be able to find someone there that can help you. If you’re fearing for your bun’s life, please see a vet.

I’m locking this thread now. If you want to contact me you can do that via PM (click on my username underneath my avatar). I hope your bun will be ok.
