I have just noticed, from having the two non-bonded sweeties (sarcasm not accidental!) running rampant together in the living room, that although neither of them had shown particular reponse to their respective names in individual play-sessions, when I shreak, “Robbie, NO!”, he runs away, and Lizzy’s continues as she was.  And vice versa (“Lizzy!  Bad Girl!”  results in her scampering away, while he continues on about his business.)

Do they secretly know their names, and just pretend not to, in order to keep us silly humans confused?!

        Sneaky buns!

Hahah I wouldn’t be surprised, they do learn their names quickly! That sounds like a bunny thing!

I think it is the voice they recognise. My buns sure do know when I am coming, they hear my voice and run to the side of the cage and put their noses out for me to give all 7 a little kiss. 🙂

i’m not sure if boston knows her name. If shes up on the couch that she’s not supposed to be, I’ll yell “Boston, NO, get down!” and she ususally will. But i think I could have just as well yelled “FRED”. I think its just the loud noise that gets her to listen.

But other times, I’ll say quietly, “C’mere Boston, come up here” and she comes…but like I said, could just be the voice recognition…I’d like to think she knows her name though!

My children were 6, 5, and 3 when we got out first bun, and there was always a lot of name yelling in our household. The rabbit not only learned her own name, but quickly understood when the name being yelled was not hers. When we added a second bun nearly 2 years later, he also figured out who has in trouble. I think their vocabulary was at least 12 distinct words, but they may have known far more, just didn’t feel like listening. Sorta like the children.

I’m convinced Layla knows her name. The other night when I came home from work and was letting her have her playtime while I talked on the phone, she was being naughty… she has this new trick of climbing up on my coffee table and trying to knock my knick knacks off… anyway I said “Layla, bad girl” and she thumped her feet at me. Then she did it again and I said “LAYLA! No bunnies on the table!” and she thumped twice. Then she did it again and I said “Layla get back in your cage” and my friend on the phone said “Don’t make me get the hose!” (Mrs. Doubtfire quote). Then Layla thumped three times and turned her back to me.

                    eh, my first teenage “child”.

My Layal is the same! The little ‘princess’ thumps at me when I yell her name when she’s being bad.

Charlie knows when we call him in particular cause there’s also a fair amount of noise in our house so he worked that one out pretty quickly. Layla knows her name but refuses to answer to it except in thumps.
