        Hi bunny parents-

My bunny Rexi has something going on I can’t quite describe. I took her to the vet and they think it is an upper airway infection or inflammation and prescribed me Sulfatrim for 5 days and Meloxicam for three days. But, I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing.

Basically she started with a sneeze like behavior, then developed what looks like hiccups but it is not going away. She is eating  but appetite is down. She is peeing and pooping. Not too lethargic and or sleepy. We redid our floors and I was worried the smells bothered her but its been over a week since we finished. Not sure if related.

        Attached is a video.IMG_4563

        Any ideas from anyone?!

        Thanks so much!

In the video it does look like hiccups, and if she were a very young bun, I’dassume it were hiccups. In young buns, hiccups are normal.

Buns can get URIs and sulfatrim as a rule helps. A longer course than 5 days is often  needed. Could you ask your vet to extend treatment to 2 weeks since the symptoms haven’t subsided?

Baytril would be the next abx to try if the sulfatrim wont help.

Thanks for the reply! I will ask the doctor, she is on day 3 of sulfatrim and while showing improvements she is still doing that strange breathing. I will follow up with the dr. for more of the antibiotics. Thank you!!

Hmm… are the hiccups preceded by a sneezing fit? Sometimes violent coughing/sneezing can trigger spasms in the diaphragm. I agree with Bam though. That is a very short course of antibiotics, which is likely not sufficient.

No, she isn’t sneezing anymore just at the beginning of this. I am going to follow up with the dr for a longer course. thanks so much for the reply!
