Okay, I KNOW we’ve discussed this before, and I know that it was actually my post about Rescue Remedy that got put in the FAQ section, but before I use this stuff on Little-Bit I just want to verify that nothing has changed about RR in the past year (no one’s had any bad experiences with it or the formula hasn’t changed or anything).
What I have is the human kind, 10ml 27% alcohol, and the ingrediants are: 5x dilution of Helianthemum nummularium HPUS, Clematis vialba HPUS, Impatiens gladulifera HPUS, Prunus cerasifera HPUS, and Ornithogalum umbellatum HPUS.
(It says that the alcohol is an inactive ingrediant, but how can alcohol be inactive? oO)
I’m hoping that giving Little-Bit a few drops will help her from being waayyyy over-the-top, high-stress, ridiculous when we’re trimming her nails or trying to catch her.
I really don’t remember a lot about our prior conversations about this. How long did we say you had to wait for it to be effective? I’m not aware of the company changing their formula or anything.
I am really stressed about school. I may just have to get the bulk size and start carrying it around in a water bottle… lol.
mmm…I had a look on the website. In the brochure regarding pets it mentions some may be sensitive to the alcohol so to dilute the solution or use the alcohol-free pet version. I can’t see the strength of it though. Have you used it on her before?
Edit: This article was listed on a rabbit references site. http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/bfrani.htm Mainly, the 1st paragraph mentions diluting it re the alcohol and then should be right to go.
I have used this on Coco – I put two drops on a papaya tablet, let it soak in and gave it to her. I didn’t worry too much about the alcohol.
I used the Human Variety, which I also use for myself.
I am a Huge fan and proponent of the Bach Flower remedies ( I own and use about half of the entire series) and have used them for some of my anxiety, insomnia and writers block issues. I have also rec’d the Rescue remedy to lots of other folks who have had very good results with it.
The regular human kind was on the Bunspace homepage a long time ago, which is what keyed me in to it.
=s It looks like the FAQ section disappeared overnight, so here was the original thread about it: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aff/1/aft/71471/afv/topic/Default.aspx
I want to try some myself because I know it would help, but I’m afraid I’d become dependent upon it. ![]()
Honestly Binkles, I am a person who has lived with serious bouts of depression/anxiety/insomnia which can lead to manic episodes. I can tell you that using the Bachs Rescue Remedy has gotten me completely off the Anxiety Meds I would take ( Ativan)
The Rescue Remedy Sleep mix is what I use with a 3 mg melatonin pill when my bouts of insomnia get bad, so I don’t need to use a prescription med for sleeping.
My friend used it in her public speaking class and she felt it was a great help. It works fairly quickly ( within about 20 minutes in humans) and you can re-dose in 4 hours if you need it. No addictions are known for the Bachs Flower Formulas. I’ve gone through times where I was doing three doses a day of up to 7 individual flowers, to rarely needing it.
And the rescue remedy was a tremendous help with flying, as I can be a very tense traveler.
Its funny, I knew about them in the 70’s – as I was a child of a hard core hippie!
Cripes! Really? That sounds like it would be wonderful.. o_o I’ve been on depression/ anxiety meds since I was ten and ADD meds since I was 17…I wonder. I guess I’ll have to give it a shot for myself when I get home from work. After all, I must try everything for myself before I give it to my bunnies.
Is it just essences and that’s it? Is it safe to drive on? Because gosh, I’m the most uptight and shy person I know.
Well, anyone else have input for bunnies? x)
I got a bottle of the human kind at GNC yesterday and put a drop in Hershey’s applesauce. She’s only 2 lbs and I didn’t know how much you can give them by weight. I had tried to examine her jaw and she bit me good. Since I needed to use a qtip to gently swab out her cheek and it seems some of the feeling has come back I was not wanting to stress her out more than I could help.
She ate the applesauce and after about 15 minutes she allowed me to catch her fairly easily (more than usual) and tranced quickly and stayed that way for a couple of minutes. This was a big improvement because she normally come out of it after 20 seconds or so and we have to repeat it several times.
Let us know how it goes for you.
I had only heard of this for dogs, never knew it could be used for humans as well!
The bulked up body builder at GNC didn’t know you could use it on rabbits either….lol
It really is mainly a human product- developed for humans. If it is sold on a pet website- it is often the SAME thing or if there is an alcohol free version it is the same version that would be offered to humans. I could not find on their website that the new “pet labeled” products contained anything different that specifically alcohol free.
Alcohol is considered to be an inactive ingredient I believe as it is the “carrier” for the herbal/flower extracts- and I don’t know what the strength but I assume it is quite low- as I believe it also acts as a bit of a preservative. That is my understanding anyway- and the dose for humans and pets is so low- and made very clear that taking more does NOT increase the effect- it is just a waste of product.
It was recommended to me when I was trying to find Pepper a husbun. The folks over at TheNatural Rabbit Yahoogroup actually recommended that I either put a little in her water or rub a few drops on her ears.
I was just looking at all of them in my basket near my bed. The alcohol percentage is about 27% – but it is exactly for what you described Katnip – as a preservative mainly and it is easiest to diffuse into an alcohol (brandy) base. The single flower remedy is a 5X solution in the alcohol. For me, I take 4 drops under my tongue. I do believe it can also be rubbed into skin if you prefer, as the idea is that it will diffuse through your skin and into your bloodstream.
The alcohol does nothing but keep the solution “sterile” and 4 very small drops for a human is really not much at all. When I give it to Coco, I drop two drops on her payaya tablet and wait for 15 minutes so I know it is in her stomach and moving through her. If I could dropper it right into her mouth, I totally would, but I can not imagine her tolerating that. The two drops soak right into the tablet and she is happy to gobble it down.
Some people do place it in water or juice and drink it, but I am an odd hardcore person who figures right under the tongue is best.
And one of the things I do love best about the Bachs is that if your body doesn’t need it, it won’t be effective. So I could theoretically be taking Walnut 4 times a day..but if it isn’t what is at the root of my “issue” it will do no good, but no harm also.
I have also used them on my daughter (11 years) and she has said that it has helped her through various issues too ( attention, nervousness etc) since we chose to not have her on ADD meds.
As I said before, I am a convert to the Bachs – and use them for lots of different things. There are some good books for people who may be interested in the full flower remedy story and figuring out which ones may be right for them. It is a curious story about how Dr Bach “figured” out which flowers/herbs/roots would be effective.
