Hawthorne, formerly Sander at San Francisco Animal Care and Control

        Status: Available

Shelter of Origin: San Francisco Animal Care and Control

I am now in a GREAT Foster home and I am doing REALLY well.
It’s truly amazing how resilient and loving I am after all I went through. Not meaning to sound too corny, but the ability of love to heal is very powerful. Though my foster Mom, Leah is very familiar with rescuing animals (She does incredible work with Cavy Spirit guinea pig rescue) cavyspirit, I am the first rabbit with whom she has lived.

With her kindness, patience and medical assistance I am recovering very well. I’m now neutered and ready to find my forever home.

I feel that life is now worth living. I look forward to my whole life is ahead of me for joy, love and fun—just like every bunny deserves. I’m still a bit stained from my horrible time in a cruel meat rabbit cage, but soon I will be a handsome snow white.

Foster homes like Leah has provided are urgently needed and extremely helpful to save bunnies at risk. I owe my life to her.

Please reach out and help save a bunny today!

Look at how adorable Hawthorne is and what an almost happy ending there is to his story!!!!

I love the ears in the first picture.  The look on his face says “Hmm, what do we have here?”.  The writeup is a bit corny, but it is so true.  A good foster home can really bring out the best in a bunny.

awe hurrah. you got his tongue licking  his chops cute. oh that pee on his fur. I had an experience with that too I gave someone my bun then she gave him back. omg he was yellow like your hawthorne here. the pee was stuck there would not wash off I ended up having to cut it out of his hair all over the place when I was done cutting the pee furr off he was so happy he started grooming he felt so much better he even gave me big kisses too. he was happy to be home again. dang I will never give  an animal to her again agh. he still had hair on him i just cut the ends with the pee on it. and he was covered with it. his furr eventually grew back out and he was gorgeous. wowee.

That’s so great how things turned out for him. I hope he ends up with a really loving family. I as well know a bunny who was rescued from a fate as a meat rabbit. The little boy who’s family owns the stable where I keep my horse had visited a neighbourhood farm where they have meat rabbits and he felt bad for them so he brought his Mom there and they bought a bunny from the guy. He lives in the stable with another bunny from the SPCA. He is the sweetest rabbit and it breaks my heart that all his brothers and sisters didn’t have such a happy life. It sickens me that this man continues to breed rabbits and many other adorable critters for meat.

Here’s a pic of me and Henri, mentioned above. Honestly, who could eat something so cute as a little bunny?

I think he looks like a parrot because of his black nose.

He is adorable, I am so glad he is being loved and not eaten.

Huh, Henry is a californian. You wouldn’t want to eat him anyway, he’s probably vegitarian.

You know, no matter what I wrote for this lame joke, it always came back with, “Of course he’s X (vegetarian, filled with vegetables, etc), he’s a rabbit!”

Oh Scarlet! Using ‘muffin’ and ‘eat’ in the same sentence when talking about a bunny? Yikes! >_< Just kidding. ^^
Anyway, gosh he’s adorable. Is he a Flemmie? Oh what I wouldn’t give for one of those! And he is SO handsome! I love the last piccy with the paw…”Alms for the poor?” ^^
I like the tongue picture too…there’s got to be a caption for that lurking in Markus’ repertoire. XD

Aww…Henri is so cute! I love the nose too….”Awk! Henri want a carrot! Awk!” Now if you could just get hinm to perch on your shoulder with an eyepatch on or something.

That guy is gorgeous …. aawwww such a gorgeous boy.

Speaking of eating rabbit … Hey Lisa I saw at the High Road Tavern on High Road that they have rabbit on the menu … I just about choked!  I have never seen rabbit on any menus here in Perth.  And don’t go there for a meal … our meals were crap and I ended up complaining to management … we were charged only for one meal not two.

I will defiantly boycott that place. I also went to a pet shop close to home, they were selling 6 week old dwarf lops, I emailed them and the excuses they came up with was ridiculously, they said that the rabbit vet uses the same breeder as they do and she said that age was acceptable to sell babies.

I don’t go there anymore, I go to the Canning Vale store.

I know Lisa…What is up with people making up excuses for seperating babies too soon! I emailed this guy who was selling five week old huskies, and he tried to tell me off saying he knows what he’s doing and that’s the least stressful time for that breed…Too bad I have a husky and know people who run the ididorod (sp?) through family friends and it’s a bunch of you know what…I told him he was full of it, and reported his ad (and it was removed)…but come on you can’t give them three more weeks??? My goodness>>>sorry stealing the thread

That first pic of Hawthorne is soo gorgeous! I just love expressive ears like that. Thank goodness he’s putting his bad experience behind him and loving life!!

Just a bit more off topic, K&K, what kind of husky do you have? I’m here in Alaska, so I just watched them run the Iditarod and was so sad to hear of the dog that was hit by a snowmobile on the All-American. (His racing days are over, needless to say.) I had a whole litter of lovely pups by my Mackenzie Husky and my mutt-dog and I was so sad to let them go when they were ready. I was VERY particular about who they went to, I can’t imagine doing that too soon!

I also couldn’t imagine eating rabbit, even before I had one. If there were some cataclysmic world disaster that left me starving I’d die before I saw a bunny on my plate. I can’t tell you how disgusted I was learning that Flemmies were originally bred only for that purpose. >_<
