I have noticed this to occur when my rabbits had too many carrots or beet greens, but today I noticed that one of my bunnies had red pee.  It only seemed to happen once, and his other wee-wees weren’t red, so I’m wondering if maybe this is a diet-related issue once again rather than a urinary tract infection?

Yesterday he had mixed grasses hay, rabbit pellets, dandelion leaves and daisy flowers.  Any of you have experience with any of these foods causing discolored urine?

It could be the carrots, here’s a good article for you to read on red urine:

My buns always have an orangish colored pee.. Monkey especially.

A urinary tract infection would likely have blood int eh urine, which looks very different from the red pee you usually see. It’s more like little black clots in the urine than an all over red color.

I don’t think a urinary tract infection would actually have pee though – mine never have – you would likely notice a UTI based on behaviors like not using the litter box and straining to urinate.

I’m going with diet, as it happends often. I found clover to be a big cause of red coloured urine in my rabbits and the shelter bunnies I care for.
