I just noticed that my 3 month old bunny has red pee! I’m really worried. He is eating pellets and alfalfa hay with some Timothy he is also getting 1/2 cup of lettuce each day. He seems normal but then I noticed that his pee was red. I don’t know what to do is this normal for a young rabbit. Please help!

It could be a Urinary Tract infection, something within his Kidneys or Bladder could be infected, go to the vet and see if he can give your rabbit some special fluids, also what kind of lettuce are you feeding your rabbit? It could also be the pigmentation in the lettuce that could be making his pee red.

Is it orange or blood red?

rabbit’s urine varies in color from the normal pale yellow to dark yellow, carrot orange, brown, or bright red. Red urine is not a medical problem. The color usually returns to normal within one to three days, although I have heard a couple of rabbits take three to four weeks before their urine returned to the pale yellow color. White urine may be due to excess calcium in the diet; if it stays white for many days you may want to discuss your rabbit’s diet with your veterinarian. Dark urine resulting from heat stress or dehydration may require fluid therapy

Probably just a combination of lettuce and alfalfa. Dark leafy greens and some hays can turn their pee orange/red.

Orange red pee in a bunny isn’t a sign of an illness. As LBJ says, it’s probably due to pigments in his food. But some buns spontaneously produce red pee and there’s still nothing wrong. Here’s an article about the phenomenon from the HRS:
