Red front paws beans

Hi everyone! I have a two years old lop bunny called Misso and, recently, while grooming her fur, i noticed that two beans (cushions) of her front paw were kinda red and felt a bit rough by the touch.

By the day, she spent it free roaming my room and at night, she spent it in that cage i pinned (ps: i only put her there because i wouldn’t be able to sleep, she’s very curious and i would be concerned about her eating something she’s not supposed to).

Otherwise, she’s eating, pooping, binkying and acting normally, she doesnt seems in pain, but anyway i felt concerned. I’ll not be able unfortunately to bring her to the vet until october 20th due money, but her 2 annual visit to the vet are done! So if anyone has any idea or if i can hold it a little while until i have the money to bring her, buy the medicines and all.

ps: her paws are not bleeding, wet or running out of fur, just feels a little bit rough than usual and red.

I couldn’t pin the cage image for a reason, but it’s about 1,5 m X 1,5 M, the “roof” of it is covered by tiles, anti slippery flooring and spaces were she can rest her foot. It has two bottle of water, a bathroom separated and a hay space! It’s were i place her while i’m sleeping or had to go out of the house for hours.

Are they actually different from the others or just that you notice the two?

Reason I ask is because I noticed one on one of my buns before and asked my vet, who said it wasn’t an issue. They are normally like that but usually their fur just covers it so one doesn’t notice it. In my case, thinning fur wasn’t an issue as it was an elder bun. May want to look at your space and see if flooring can be improved and nails are appropriate.

same for me! she has a lot thick fur on her paws, front and back ones! may i ask, did it normalize on your bunnies?

answering, i just noticed two red beans! the other ones are light pink!

Ha, I actually have no idea! Don’t even remember which one it was. I only saw it because the vet was examining him and I was on the other side of the table so I saw the underside of his paw but his was much more red than your buns’. I was alarmed because thought it was inflamed but I didn’t have a reference point. The vet did say that digit stretches back a tiny bit more than the others but there was nothing wrong with it; don’t know if it was always like that or if that was something new. I do handle his paws often and they look and feel normal.

Bunnies will naturally develop wear spots on their feet over time. We often think of their back feet (hocks), but you can end up with exposed front paw pads as well. They will often develop a callous in these areas. As long as it isn’t inflamed, red, cracking, bleeding, etc. then it isn’t anything to be too concerned about. You can change up their flooring to help with the “wear and tear”… although I realize that is difficult when they are free-roam. Is she on regular carpet when she’s out and about?

understood! i’ll remove some tiles and invest on carpets, i’ll watch how she’a going to adapt. also her nails are clipped! vet clipped it past week luckly!

when she’s exploring my room, she’ll have access to tiles, regular carpets and wood tile also! but she likes to play with boxes and clothes! and enjoys to sleep in my bed hahaha
